Review summary
This was our first transatlantic cruise, and we weren't sure if we'd like being six full days at sea. We needn't have worried...it was the most relaxing and enjoyable holiday we've had for ages!
The food, as always on Celebrity, was first class, and the service left nothing to be desired. The theater shows were very good, particularly the Celebrity cast production numbers, but the live music at the various venues around the ship left a bit to be desired. The house band was only mediocre, and there didn't seem to be a good variety of entertainment available, with some of the acts playing in the same 'venues' throughout the 15 days. We'd hoped they might change at Boston or New York, but no such luck.
We decided to book a future cruise on board, because according to the Celebrity in-stateroom TV channel, those who booked would receive on board credit on both the current and the future cruise "no matter where". We booked another transatlantic, but went back the next day to check the details, only to be told that this offer didn't apply to transatlantic cruises. The TV ad was therefore misleading, and we're re-considering our options. We may change to a Royal Caribbean TA instead, as we think the entertainment might be better.
A note about US Customs and Immigration - the queues should be better managed, with staff checking non-US citizens' letters and stopping those with later appointments turning up too early and adding to the chaos. This immigration procedure has to be done twice, because Bermuda falls in between 2 US ports, the first on board before disembarking in Boston, and the second in port in Port Lauderdale, whether or not you intend to leave the ship, and everyone must disembark here. It was after 12:00 noon before we were told to leave the ship; naturally those on excursions had to go first. This took well over an hour, carving up what should have been a full relaxing day on board. I took the opportunity while waiting to do some packing.
About 100 passengers were going to stay on board and continue to the Caribbean cruise - we really wished we could too! Maybe in the future...
