Review summary

After traveling on Azamara for our past 2 cruises, we decided to try Celebrity as we had heard good reviews of it, and the apparent marketing strategy to position Celebrity as the replacement of Azamara in the corporate structure. We originally, booked an Aqua Class cabin, and then won a Sky Suite bid. Traveling in a Suite on Celebrity made the trip comparable to Azamara.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
There were IT issues that delayed the process. If we were not in the Suite category our rating would have been 1 star.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The Luminae food was excellent. We barely ate in the buffet, except for some lunches of pizza and sandwiches. The Tuscan grill was excellent. We tried Le Petite Chef one night and found the show cute, but the food was tasteless without any "wow" factor; it is not worth the extra cost. We purchased the Premium Beverage package which was nice except for the limited wine selection. It was insulting that there were a few wines that were priced a few dollars more than there $15 per glass limit; especially when a $16 glass turned into an extra $3.65 charge.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We just enjoyed relaxing in the Solarium. There were a lot of activities; but most did not interest us. With the ship at 40% capacity there were no crowds and it sometimes felt like we had a private yacht.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The quality of the entertainment was fantastic. The only problem was the sound system; either the acoustics in the theater or the sound engineer were poor. Often the backup music would overpower the performers. One of the best shows was a pianist Harry Rios since he played without the backup band.

Children's Programs

No children on the ship.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The service was incredible. I suspect since we were in a suite the staff was paid extra attention to us and learned our names quickly. Many Bar servers knew our names and likes after a few days.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship's design and cleanliness were excellent. We did not experience an problems. It was nice being on a bigger ship as it was a smoother sailing from our past trips on the smaller Azamara ships.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
It was our first time in a Suite cabin. The extra service and space was fantastic.

Ports of call

Tampa, Florida

3 out of 5
Tampa is a Floridian city; not much more to say.

Ponta Delgada, Azores

5 out of 5
Beautiful port and city. We went on a whale and dolphin watching tour and saw both.

Cadiz (Seville), Spain

5 out of 5
Great town to walk around. The port was very close to the city. This was a great stop.

Malaga, Spain

4 out of 5
Malaga was nice to visit. We did an excursion to Mejas, which is a town with all white buildings on the side of a hill overlooking the Mediterranean.

Cartagena, Spain

2 out of 5
The Wonder of the Seas took the prime parking spot, and we were forced to dock at the industrial port that required a shuttle bus to town. I used Cheapcruise's shore excursion company to do a Kayaking trip that was excellent. Since we didn't dock at the main cruise port, I was worried about making the tour, but the company waited for me to arrive from the shuttle bus. The town was not too interesting, but the Kayaking tour was great.

Valencia, Spain

2 out of 5
The pier is far from the city and required a 5 euro shuttle to get into town. We also did not have much time in port, so we stayed on the ship.

Barcelona, Spain

5 out of 5
Barcelona is a great town.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Fantastic. The Suite Concierge escorted our group (one of the last ones) off the ship, through emmigration, and to the baggage area.

You don’t need to stay in a suite to get great service on Celebrity. If you are friendly to the crew, they will remember your order preferences and sometimes even ignore the up charge on this glasses of wine.

We really enjoyed celebrity except for the horrible over sound blasting.

We cruised on three different Celebrity ships in regular balcony staterooms, the serves was excellent and consistent on every cruise.
