Review summary

Cruising on Ascent is worth it merely for the pleasure of being on such a beautiful ship and for the excellent large shows. Food, while plentiful and mostly quite good, is not up to the quality on some competitors' ships. Service is very good, but could become great if the staff were not stretched quite so thinly.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The buffet is vast and very good, especially the Indian cuisine and the rolls. Desserts, while beautiful, were often not worth the calories. Fruit was plentiful and good especially the pineapple, but berries were missing. Other buffet food ranged from ok to very good. Main dining room food was good, not great, with occasional misses and occasional pleasant surprises.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Immersive VR games were fun. Other activities (trivia, sports-related games, escape room) were mostly good. Speakers were also good.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Big shows in the theater were wonderful! Shows in smaller venues were often crowded and difficult to view.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Overall, the staff works very hard and is quite polite. However, we often cruise another line and find their service to be superior. It may be that the staff on Celebrity ships are stretched just a bit too thin.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Gorgeous ship and very clean! A+

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Very comfortable, clean, and well-sized for 2 people. Minor issue: there is no easy way to hang items that need to dry if you have more than just a couple of items.

Ship tip

Get enough sleep before and during your cruise. There is always something to do but you won't want to return home exhausted!

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

4 out of 5
Fine for embarkation. Did not do an excursion.

Nassau, Bahamas

Not a particularly nice port. Little to do unless you spend an exorbitant amount to visit Atlantis. We did our own walking tour and visited a distillery.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Very touristy and busy. We went to Chankanaab to snorkel. Punta Sur is also a good option for a tour.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Nice things on the island but not enough time in port. We rented a car and went to the QEII Gardens and blue iguana sanctuary ($25 USD pp) as well as the Cayman Parrot Sanctuary ($20 USD pp). Both were a lot of fun but not inexpensive. We had planned to visit other places on the island but ran out of time.

Disembarkation
