Our first experience with Carnival, and we were pleasantly surprised.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Long lines to get onto the ship. It's probably just something that needs to be gone through, but it wasn't much fun standing in multiple lines to board the ship.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
All of the food was good. Very little of it was 'wow". The burger joint was very good. They were pretty efficient at moving everyone through the lines, so at least there was not a long wait, even if there was a long line.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
The water slides were very fun. The fitness center was great - larger than expected and very clean. Our teens enjoyed the arcade. The mini golf course was a nice activity to have on board. We enjoyed playing bingo, but the packages were quite expensive.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Evening musical shows were good. The comedians were mixed - some were quite good and others were only so-so. It would have been nice if the venue for the comedy shows was bigger - we had to get in line early to get in.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our room steward and most of the waiters were extremely friendly and helpful. We were mostly drinking ice water and constantly asking bartenders for just water with ice, and they accommodated us with a smile every time.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Everything was very clean and we saw people cleaning constantly - washing walls and windows and swabbing the deck.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Very clean - our cabin steward did an awesome job.
We booked the ruins/cave tubing tour and were fortunate to have Dennis the Menace as our guide. It was only our family of 4 and Dennis, and he drove us all over the place and managed to get us back to the tender in time.
We visited Pankanaab Park and experienced a manatee encounter, which was so cool. Then we walked a little further into the park and rented some equipment and snorkeled, which was also fun. Our ticket included a buffet with open bar. The food was so so, but since we didn't realize that it was even included, it was a pleasant surprise and saved us from needing to buy food and drink.
