This was at best an average experience. The security departments should be renamed, "The Keystone Cops Department."
Embarkation

Normal.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Food was formulary, no originality or creativity in menu, and carving station meat was always dry and tough. Sea Day Brunch was slow service on all three occasions and food was no better than what was available in Marketplace Buffet.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Fitness Center was standard and acceptable.
Entertainment
1 out of 5
Same tired show, same songs, same performances. My local theater group could have provided a better performance.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Staff seemed to be going through the motions. The Security staff are not professionally trained to to hand confrontations. The handling of situation between passengers on the Lido Deck nearly escalated into an all out brawl. I've trained Security personnel in dealing with high risk situations and the Security personnel in this situation ignored every rule of de-escalation.
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
The ship is old and poorly maintained. Rust is visible everywhere and especially disconcerting was the amount of rust at the emergency stations.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Cabin steward was diligent and kept the cabin fresh.
Area is dirty and safety is questionable. Watch your back. I was talking to American Expats in city and was told that the municipal police have taken to shaking down the tourists.
We have been on several Carnival cruises. The one coming up will be the first since Feb.2020. I have always been very happy with Carnival. I hope things are back to normal. Maybe staffing is a problem since Covid interruption. I am ready to enjoy my
Cruise!
Hate this wasn’t a great cruise for you, and thankful I’ve never been on a cruise where security had to be called to do anything other than monitor. From personal experience, the Vista is one of my favorite ships and at roughly 6 - 7 years old, she is far from being an old vessel. Rust is almost always going to be visible somewhere as this is a steel ship at sea. No doubt she will go to dry dock at some point in the future for upgrades, the new livery, etc.. As far as ports, the three you mentioned are among my top 5 and I have never felt unsafe at any of them. My advice to anyone, pay attention to your surroundings, stay with your tour, and enjoy yourself. Appreciate the detailed review of your cruise experience. Hopefully your next cruise will be better. Happy Sails 🛳 🏝
