Review summary

Have cruised this ship prior to pandemic and it was excellent. This time, ship felt worn out and crew did not seem as happy as before. Food in MDR was marginal and returned several items due to poor taste. Limited music onboard to enjoy any dancing. Limited selections on LIdo deck. Still wonder why Carnival does not prohibit SMOKING anywhere on the ship. Could not enjoy casino due to abundance of smokers. Carnival knew when we left Galveston that engine problems would limit speed and thus cause changes in our itinerary. Yet, on Monday they announced a lie that due to a 'TECHNICAL ISSUE' that we would not stopping at Grand Cayman. People were not happy. Slow speed of ship resulted in shorter stays in all ports. We were two hours late arriving back at Galveston and the disembarkation was the worst I have ever experienced. Vacated cabin at 8am and then just stood around ship until 11:45am when we finally left ship. Information to passengers from crew was unacceptable and lacking. This was extremely unacceptable for older people who could not find a seat anywhere except on the floor. It seemed as if this was the first time that the crew had handled any type of disembarkation. Due to our late arrival, several hundred people for the next cruise were already standing in line with their luggage in the sun waiting to check in. Shame, shame on Carnival and the entire crew of the Vista. Will think very carefully about cruising with Carnival ever again.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Not very good as compared to previous cruise on the Vista. MDR food selection was greatly reduced and quality of food was poor. Sent several items back due to under/overcooked. Many items lacked any taste at all.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Should rename the pool to be a casual drinking location. People crowded and just drank. Can imagine how many relieved themselves while staying in the pool. Small children should use the children's area and not flounder around in the main pool. Thermal pool spa was barely warm and thermal seats were never warm.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Two of the stage shows were good but the ROCK show was very loud and unconnected. Comedians were lousy. DJ on lido deck needs to reduce volume of speakers to a more comfortable level instead of blaring sound.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
As usual the service provided by the onboard hotel staff is always excellent.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Ship looks very tired and needs to be updated. Signs of wear and tear appear everywhere. Elevators seemed to work sometimes then others were very slow.

Cabin / Stateroom

2 out of 5
Carpet badly stained. Bed cover had urine stains on it. Window seal was loose and outside air came into room.

Ship tip

Do not sail on this ship until it returns from drydock in August to replace faulty motor.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

4 out of 5
No just parked car and went to ship

Montego Bay, Jamaica

2 out of 5
Port is worn and people are very aggressive on shore

George Town, Grand Cayman Did not visit port

Carnival knew they had a engine problem which reduced cruising speed before we left Galveston. Due to slow speed, we skipped Grand Cayman. People pretty upset with lack of Carnival honesty.

Cozumel, Mexico

Always a good visit

Disembarkation

Worst ever...Bad customer relations..Lack of information...stood for 3 1/2 hours waiting to get off ship.
