Ship: Carnival Vista

Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Review summary

I had a great time, even though this was a solo trip for me - a first! I considered cancelling when my wife couldn't come at the last minute. But hey! A week of cruise therapy is good for the soul.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very efficient. Quick to the ship. Short wait for the room to be ready.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Some I liked. Some not so much.

Lido Marketplace

3 out of 5

Buffet fare not so good. A lot of the fruit was not ripe, but still served. Breads were disappointing; stale and hard at times. Many items not served hot. Nothing memorable in a positive sense - other than the soft serve.

Cucina Del Capitano

5 out of 5

Did the pasta bar twice for lunch, which is at no additional charge. Maybe the best (freshest) bread on the ship.

Guy's Burger Joint

5 out of 5

What's not to like?! Seemed very popular with many cruisers.

Guy's Pig & Anchor

5 out of 5

Very good when you need a meat fix, but only available on sea days. A bit hard to find on the ship, but be persistent!

JiJi Asian Kitchen

5 out of 5

I had their Mongolian stir fry for lunch once, and it was quite good. No upcharge at lunchtime is a plus.

BlueIguana Cantina

5 out of 5

This was my favorite breakfast choice. Made to order breakfast burritos are fantastic, and the line moves quickly.

Onboard Activities

Shore Excursion Desk

5 out of 5

Very helpful in sorting out and resolving an issue I had.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
I really enjoyed the very talented live musicians. There were 4 comedians, and I liked one of them. 'Nuf said.

Liquid Lounge

4 out of 5

The shows were good. I thought the balcony seating (level 5) was much more comfy.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
A friendly bunch who are focused on safety.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Very clean throughout. An annoying loud speaker was shorting out and ruined the tranquil Tides Pool area for me with all the static. I pointed it out, but nothing got done to fix it. That said, it was only one issue and the crew seemed to be working very hard. We didn't sink, after all, so I'm very grateful for their efforts.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
I had an Oceanview cabin, which was 80% lifeboat view. Everything worked well and the steward was great. But nevermore! Balconies from here on.

Ship tip

There really is something for everyone on the Vista! Find your element!

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

Belize City, Belize

Enjoyed an excursion to Xunantunich - 7 hrs in length, 4 hour on a bus, but worth it if you are a history buff. Fascinating.

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Went to the beach via chairlift. Great time.

Cozumel, Mexico

Best margaritas of the trip (ashore).

Disembarkation

Super fast!

Beach day. Beach day. ...after climbing Xunantunich. Does this really need a caption?

The Tides speaker! Yes, it was the same in December. Only complaint I had about the ship though 😁

You're really not alone on a cruise ship unless you choose to be.
