Review summary

Awesome time and just what we needed after 2 years since our last cruise.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
This was our first time on on the Vista and for sailing from Galveston. Overall a great cruise. We loved the ship, although disappointed the skyride was not running. Definitely could tell was only at about 65% capacity and had less than 70 kids on board. With such smaller crowds, never had to wait very long for anything and overall not very noisy. Embarkation went very smoothly. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Did not have to wait very long once we got through our check in until we could board.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food was better than the last few cruises we have taken. I still miss the menu and food quality from when we first started cruising in 2005. I'm not a big fan of the American table, but I can accept it. Overall I would like a larger variety of desserts in the main dining room and a wider selection of vegetables. (But that's also a problem in many chain restaraunts- sometimes it seems that broccoli is the only veg choice. And while it may be good for your health, I can't eat it). We ate at the steakhouse for the first time and loved it. The food was excellent as was the service. Wasn't as thrilled with the Italian restaraunt on this ship as we have been on other ships. Wasn't bad, just average.

Onboard Activities

We didn't utilize the sports deck as much as we thought we would, not sure why. Was disappointed the skyride was not working.

Entertainment

Cruise Director Joey was great, as was LaRonsay (sp?). I hope he is going to be a cruise director soon-i think he would be great. The shows were good although due to rough seas, the last night's show was just singing, no acting or dancing. Didn't not go to the comedians because that venue was too crowded for my comfort level.

Cabin / Stateroom

We had and extended aft balcony for the first time. We were on deck 9, cabin #9475, and would choose this again. This was on the top deck for ext balconies and we had an overhang, which we loved. I am very fair-skinned and burn easily, so the overhang gave plenty of protection from the sun. My dtr enjoys the sun and even with the overhang still got plenty of sunshine. We were concerned about being just below the Lido deck, but did not have much noise with scraping of chairs. We heard it a little while on the balcony, but did not hear much when in the room. The cabin seemed a little roomier than other balconies we've had in the past and was very comfortable for the two of us. Our room steward, Carlos, was wonderful-one of the best we've ever had. Was very friendly and very efficient. You can tell they have been doing a very good job with enhanced cleaning. Our room was spotless as was the ship.

We did the Alta Ha ruins excursion and had a good time. Our guide was excellent and very informative. Lunch was good.

Loved this port. We stayed at the beach and got a clamshell. We went out on the kayaks and spent a lot of time just floating on our mats. The water was perfect. This was the most perfect, relaxing beach excursion I've had in a long time and just what was needed.

We did not do an excursion, just got off the ship and walked around the stores for a bit. Nothing very special.

Disembarkation

Due to rough seas on Friday we got back 2 hrs late on Saturday. We had concerns about our flight, but the process for handling early flight passengers went very smoothly. (We wouldn't have been considered early flights, but because of the delay in coming into port, we became early flights.) We made it to Hobby with a few minutes to spare, and did not have to change our flight.
