Review summary

We had an awesome New Years cruise on the Carnival Vista. I have never used Varnival for cruising so I was a bit weary, but I have nothing but the best to say about the quality of everything on this ship. The service is unbeatable and the activities for ALL ages abounded. From old to young we all had the best vacation ever.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Although the weather in Galveston had us off to a late start, I will say that the boarding process was very efficient.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The dining rooms where very clean, the service AMAZING and the quality and quantities of the buffets was perfect. I highly recommend the Bonsai for sushsi and the Asian restaurant for a family style dinner. The Asian restaurant had very high quality dishes.

JiJi Asian Kitchen

5 out of 5

The quality of the food and service of this specialty restaurant was top notch. The flavors from the different regions of China were brought to life here.

Havana Bar

5 out of 5

The decor and live music in this venue was the best!!!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The pool area was very nice, but I preferred to spend time in the Serenity area for over 21 (15th floor). I prefer the quiet and the jacuzzies there. I also LOVED the Spa area and the services provided there.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The comedy shows and stage shows were the highlight of my evenings onboard. I loved to get dressed up for a nice dinner and a show every night.

Children's Programs

I didn't have children with me.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I cannot rave enough about the staff onboard!!! OMG, these people really work hard to please all the guests. I work in HR and my respects for the people that hire because they have done an amazing job of choosing the most qualified people for this hospitality industry.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship's layout was very easy to navigate and he common areas were VERY well maintained and clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had a balcony room and was very comfortable for 3 people. The bathroom was the perfect size for a cruise and had a good size shower. Our steward kept our room spotless and it was very nice to always come back to a clean room.

Ship tip

My advice is to get the drink package if you like to have a drink with each meal or if you are traveling with young adults. Individual drinks are pricey and the drink package is more efficient.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

2 out of 5
Galveston is not a very nice port. We only used it to embark and disembark.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Conzumel is beautiful. There are so many things to do. Since I was traveling with my mother we didn't do any water tours, but we loved the tour with the Mayan soccer game. My young adult kids loved their jeep tour.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
We loved the beach here, but it was very full of people from the cruise. I would recommend getting a taxi from the port and finding a more secluded place.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

5 out of 5
This is a beautiful island. We took the tour that had the chair lifts up to Mystic Mountain and the views were mesmerizing.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
The disembarkation process was extremely well organized and we were out in under an hour after our time slot was called.
