I loved the Port of Galveston. Getting on and off the ship was excellent and quite organized. I loved the staff. The dining room experience and brunch were excellent. The spa experience was great! I had a relaxing, enjoyable cruise.
Embarkation

We were running late due to vehicle issues. We notified Carnival. A supervisor worked with the ship letting them know our every move towards getting there. She stayed on the phone with us until we arrived to the entrance where a gentleman with a clipboard escorted us in and security was waiting for us. Instead of frowns for our being late, everyone made us feel as if they were glad to see us. Staff clapped and cheered that we made it on the ship. A wonderful gentleman by the name of David offered to assist us with our luggage and I’m sure this was not his job. He walked our heavy luggage all the way to the entrance of the ship. We were met by Shay who told us we were attending a private party-of course it was a muster drill. She made this impending task pleasant. Overall, what could have become a horrible way to begin a cruise turned out to be the beginning of a great cruise due to the wonderful cruise staff at Port of Galveston.

Food and Dining

The Horizon dining room experience was excellent! The food was delicious! The wait staff were phenomenal! I was disappointed this time with the Guy’s burger. Mine was tasteless and not cooked well. Part of why I wanted to do Carnival was for this burger. I was also disappointed with the service for just plain tacos. People stood in line for quite some time before getting served. Some people actually left because they felt it wasn’t worth the wait. There seemed to be no problem with getting a burrito though. The carvery for sandwiches was very unorganized. Staff kept running to the back to retrieve ingredients for sandwiches. They also ran out of cake and the hand scooped ice cream. I must say the seafood place Seafood Shack was excellent!

Cabin / Stateroom

We had a balcony spa cabin located conveniently near the spa. Our view from our balcony was beautiful! However, like most balconies this one had no shade and it was so hot in the afternoon it was best to go on it early morning on early evening. The bed was comfortable, and the cabin size was perfect. I didn’t mind the small shower because it worked for us. I was not fond of the cleanliness. There were questionable stains on the carpet and the room smelled upon arrival. The linen also seemed to have an odor to it and I requested it to be changed. One night I returned back to the room and there were red spots on the linen. Though the linen was changed, I didn’t trust these spots. Overall I loved the cabin and its location. It would have been better had our cabin been cleaned properly.
Ship tip
Make sure to download the Carnival Hub app. It is absolutely wonderful!
We didn’t get to spend any time in the port. We were whisked away to an ATV/beach excursion. The ATV experience was fun. The beach was a nuisance with people selling wares. This was supposed to be a resort? Hardly! The lounge chairs were filthy with bird poop. We ordered food priced at $18 and the guy who brought our food told us we owed him $25 due to tips and taxes for three small skewers of meat and rice. Carnival needs to find a better beach for this excursion.
I liked the port. People were friendly. We found a bar where you got free internet if you bought a drink. The drinks were reasonable and delish! We met a nice couple celebrating there anniversary. Nice place to chill.
