I was a bit disappointed but maybe my expectations were too high. The food and odor on ship really made me not want to do it again! Excursions were great! Also, there was a lot of pot smoking going on, in cabin areas and outside the entire cruise and nothing was done about it. It stunk too! You get what you pay for I guess.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation was fast and easy as long as you have all paperwork in hand and in order.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
The food was not what I expected. I expected it to be "cafeteria " type food, low salt and sugar to accommodate large crowds but it was tasteless. The same food on the buffet was offered in the dining room. Thank goodness for Guy's burgers! It was fantastic!
Guy's Burger Joint

Excellent! Loved it! Always fresh and hot. Variety of toppings.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
Pools too crowded. Any activities we were interested in and went too seemed like they were just trying to get you to spend more money. Bingo cards cost money, etc. They advertised "sales and clearance" in the gift shop but everything was the same price as it had been the day prior. Spa is ridiculously high priced.
Entertainment

They were ok, nothing spectacular.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Most of the staff was friendly and helpful.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Fowl odor throughout ship. Like a port-a-potty. Maybe that's how all cruises are, not sure since this was my first. Everything else seemed clean and well kept.
Cabin / Stateroom

Bebs were comfortable. A little hot in there but not unbearable. The first night, it smelled like a toilet but they came in and "refreshed" the room. We didn't notice it the rest of the trip.
Ship tip
Bring bottled or canned drinks. Had to walk to dinning area every time we wanted water or pay $4 for water in room.
We did an adult only resort excursion. Tour guide was excellent, food was amazing. Not long enough but we enjoyed it. Not sure if we got ripped on the jewelry. I bought vanilla and later found out I was ripped off on it. We had time to do some shopping afterwards as well so that was nice.
Went on "lazy river" float and Maya ruins trip. Tour guide and food was excellent. It was an hour from ship which was a bit long but overall it was a nice visit. Food was top notch as well as the service!
The Valor is a really old ship. I'm sorry that was the one you chose for your first cruise. I recommend going on a ship less than 10 years old for your next one.
