Review summary

It is a cheap Caribbean cruise so if you keep that in mind you won't be disappointed.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The breakfast buffet was often cold. The food was sub par. The lunch buffet was good but it is awkward as their are a few stations that a server must assist with such as with the soup, but the servers pay no attention to these stations so you have to flag them down to help. Guys burger joint was excellent. The taco place was very good but the lines are often long. I did not go to the specialty restaurants so I have no opinion on them. The main dining room had a great wait staff but the food was just average. Nothing blew me away. The sea day brunch was very good but getting an alcoholic drink was difficult. Both days I went I ordered a bloody mary. Both days it took over 15 minutes for my drink to get to me and no server ever checked to get me a refill. I also found the drink service in the buffet lacking as well. If you want a soda you have to stop by the bar before you go to the buffet because no one will be coming by to take a drink order.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5

Spa Carnival

3 out of 5

The spa was clean and well maintained. There is no actual waiting room so they have you wait in the salon. The service areas are extremely small as are the massage tables. I booked the spatopia package but when I go to the spa they kept trying to give me a lesser massage for the same price. I even took out the flyer and showed them what I booked and they still shorted me a collagen treatment. Also there is an automatic gratuity that they don't mention. I don't mind it I just would like to know about it so I don't double tip unless I want to.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
I went to 2 shows. They were both cheap black box productions but the group performing was very good and the cruise director was excellent.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
The kids liked camp ocean and the videos games there. However they didn't do any arts and crafts even when they were scheduled to. Also all the fun parties that are listed on the website only happen in camp owls whic is when you pay for babysitting services after 10 pm. It would be nice if they had some kids parties at an earlier hour. The counselors were nice and attentive and they do make all the kids wash their hands before they start playing with anything.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
My room steward was ok but not very attentive. Many bartenders seemed unhappy. The dining room staff and the production staff were they only people who showed great guest service.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The ship is clean but desperately needs a remodel. There are unused areas all over. The buffet is awkward. The rooms are old and need new fixtures.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The cabin and the bathroom were both bigger than expected. My husband and I both found the bed hard and uncomfortable. The room was clean but dated. The thermostat was strange. It was cold during the day and then got very warm at night without any adjustments to the thermostat. Apparently this happened in many rooms because even the comedian on board commented on it.

Ship tip

Get your sodas or bar drinks before going to the buffet as servers are few and far between.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

4 out of 5
Galveston is a nice port and there are many little shops and restaurants nearby.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
In Cozumel the shopping was good and the area was clean and safe. We took a cab to Paradise Beach. The beach was clean, the pool was nice and the staff was attentive.

Progreso (Merida), Mexico

2 out of 5
This port is horrible. If you do a shore excursion I guess it might be ok as a way to go elsewhere. But overall it is run down and dilapidated. There are police patrols to keep tourists safe but it looks like you are walking through the ghetto to get to the beach. Not a safe feeling at all. I don't see any reason to return...ever.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Disembarkation was timed well and well organized. The only thing I would suggest is to find a way to regulate the elevators better. It took a good 15 minutes to catch an elevator. We did self assist for our baggage so we needed to use the elevator.

You sound like you are very hard to please. If you look for something to complain about, you will find it. 7 days on an ocean cruise ship and you don’t have a good time?? So sorry for you. A cruise or any vacation is what you make of it!!!!!😎😎
