Review summary

I went on this cruise as a favor to a friend who had recently survived cancer. I was not expecting to enjoy cruising in general, but was particularly worried about a Carnival Cruise. I had heard that the demographic was generally younger and less educated. While I found that to be the case, I was pleasantly surprised by the crew, who were extremely pleasant and fun. The overall decor of the ship was gaudy, as if I were stuck in a bad low-end Las Vegas hotel for the week. The buffet food was generally disgusting, almost inedible by my standards. However, I was extremely impressed by the quality of the food at dinner each night, and by the restaurant we ate at our last evening on the ship. Also, the upscale bar, Alchemy, was impressive by any measure. The bartenders were positively fantastic and the drinks they served were top notch!

I was very impressed by our cleaning service and by the cabin. It was positively lovely!

Ship tip

The Valor was an okay ship for families. If you're looking for a more upscale or refined experience, this is probably not the place to be.
