Review summary

We had a delayed departure due to an unfortunate death on the prior cruise which delayed the ship's return to port.  We got out very late that night.  Notifications were sent by email which were very helpful.  However, since we were already almost there, it still was a major problem.  We lost a port stop due to this.  The $25 credit per person did not seem appropriate to cover.

Otherwise, the cruise was a good value with enjoyable ports of call.  Smoke smell was a problem at times---will be nice when there is no smoking on the ship.

The medical emergency was someone dying of a stroke. I was on that cruise.

Someone died on our cruise also on the valor sailing that was 4/9 to 4/16....the call went out just as we docked at grand Turk. The person was quietly removed from the ship while we were all out at the beach. Only reason I know is because I talked to someone who witnessed it.

Sorry that was the ecstasy. Valor appears to have just been a medical emergency

It was in the news. There was no murder it was a mechanical accident. Nothing could be done to warrant a ship wide announcement. Whenever a death occurs that is not natural it has to have proper investigation and documentation.

How did you hear that person died? We have been trying to find out why we turned around and sailed back over 5 hours to Grand Turk... why didn't the coast guard pick him up if he had a stroke, why did we dock at a different dock? Why did it take customs to take 2 hours to clear us? Why were the police, a fire truck and an ambulance at Port Canaveral when we got there.... there is more to their story than they are saying... my husband and I heard from our brother-in-law's driver, back to the airport, that a man was murdered... I've seen that in a couple of other places, that would explain why a medical emergency wasn't called on the intercom, why we would turn around and why the police were at the port, etc... if anyone else knows more, please share!

Sounds like decent accommodation

Passengers were also refunded Port Fee charges and taxes incurred due to port fees, plus given 20% off future cruise. Heard some discontent on the percentage off but when you get down to it, 20% off a cruise isn't such a bad deal. That alone could save you several hundred dollars.

Mamarita it seems more likely that the complaint was about the low compensation for missing a port not someone passing.

JusMe    8 years ago

The $ 25.00 was not compensation for the missed port but a refund of port charges that were not paid since the ship did not port.

The medical emergency was handled the right way. I was on that cruise also. Smoke in the casinos and towels to reserve deck lounge chairs were the only issue I had.

So Carnival should have banned the an from dying? Come on, show a little compassion!
