We would love to go back on another cruise! We highly suggest going through a travel agent like we did if it's your first time. Get the anytime dining so you're not limited to times that you have to eat.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
We were a little nervous about our first cruise already & I had issues with the hospital issued birth certificate I brought along with my ID, & social security card so thinking I may not be able to board really made us more nervous. I was finally able to be let on. I did not care for the buffet options when boarding so did not eat until we dined in for dinner since there wasn't another option at the time. I was sea sick the first evening & couldn't eat dinner either, so the first day/night was rough for me.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The food was AMAZING! We enjoyed the Port of Call & vegetarian dishes most! The drinks were good & strong as well. We enjoyed the drink with spiced rum & ginger beer the most.
London Dining Room
5 out of 5
Dining in for breakfast & dinner was by far my favorite food experience. The food was always excellent, as well as the service, & the show put on by the servers was so fun to watch! I also enjoyed the shared seating for breakfast where we could meet other cruisers from all over the US.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
We did not have time to try out the water slide, mini golf, casino, or arcade. Our excursions were long so we did not spend a ton of time on the days in Mexico on the ship at all. We think a 7 day cruise would be best to enjoy all that the ship as to offer. We did enjoy the comedy shows, battle of the genders, love & marriage, & music from around the world shows! We also attended the spa tour the first day at sea & received discounts on spa packages. We wanted to enjoy yoga & cycling but the classes started too late. If they were offered at 7-8 AM VS 8:30 AM we would have had time to do this too.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
We loved the live band that played in the casino but hated how smokey it was in there so we couldn't enjoy their music much. We attended all of the shows we could.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All of the staff were super friendly & helpful! We did have one server who was so nice but slow with service that made us late for a few things, but other than that everyone was great.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
It was a little confusing to get around the ship-I didn't like passing through or around the smokey casino (would like it to be closed in ideally) & there seemed to be a strong waste odor in the hallways.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
We could have done a cabin without a window because we were never in our cabin. If you plan to enjoy all that the ship has to offer save the money & don't get a window or balcony. There were no outlets to charge your phone by your bed which was strange.
Ship tip
You won't wear all of the clothes you pack-less is more, pack LOTS of sunscreen-it is $17 per bottle at the very least off of the ship, study the map of the ship & plan out activities a little before so you're not running to everything (we did feel sort of rushed to do it all), & go to all of the events that give away vouchers for free items off of the boat & discounts. We got charm bracelets & earrings in Mexico to bring back home for free from attending one of the jewelry seminars. if you're a wine drinker-get the wine package. With the beverage package you get an additional 10% off & can have a bottle at dinner waiting for you. If you don't finish it they will save it for you for the next evening or allow you to bring it to your cabin. We chose not to get the drink package & fell shy of $50 or so to getting to the amount it would have cost to get it, so we were glad we didn't get it. If you plan on non-stop drinking the entire time then it's worth it.
Yes-road in VW Buggies around the city, snorkeled, & visited another area where they cooked for us & gave us 5 minute free massages. We did not have much time to enjoy the shopping as it was a long excursion. You want to shop here for better prices than in Progreso.
This was my absolute favorite day! We drove about an hour & twenty minutes away in a very nice VW van with lots of seating, AC, & TV, and got a tour of the city, then drove vintage Land Cruisers to some of the Mayan ruins, enjoyed hand picked fruit from the Mayan men, drove another twenty minutes or so to the Mayan ruins, & then headed back. We are already planning another trip just to stay at the plantation we were at during this excursion-we fell in love with the city!
