Review summary

My first cruise was exciting but did have some bumps.

Extremely bad weather the second night.  I know that is not anyone's fault, but wish he could have steered the ship farther away.

Staff was extremely nice!  Loved our steward!  He had our names down and always spoke to us by our names and asked how we were doing and if he could get us anything.

Had a mix up at the excursion desks.  Was told that a certain excursion was available at 9am and 12pm the next day and that someone from Carnival would be at the port to book our excursion if we decided in the morning to book it.  Upon speaking to the Carnival person, we were told that there was no 12 excursion, only a 9, and we had missed it.  It really messed up our day.  We did find another excursion, but not through Carnival.

Overall, I enjoyed the cruise immensely!  My two friends traveling with me had been on a cruise before and were not as impressed as I was.

Cabin was clean! Guest services brought us in a little fridge when we requested.

Ship tip

Not that kid friendly. Smaller ship. Small pools. Have to walk through the smoke filled casino to get to very small kids game room.

I've cruised December once, and it was good weather, but found I was rushed getting ready for Christmas with all the grandkids coming, that I haven't done another since. I'd love to spend the whole Christmas and New Years on a cruise!

I go in December for that reason

Anytime you decide to cruise during hurricane season, you run that risk of running into bad weather, or rough seas. It's a chance that you choose to take. That is why I would never book during this time of year. Hurricane season runs from June to November, with the most active time, during August and September. The best time for cruising is January to April, with January and February being called "high season" for that reason. I usually sail either January or February, and leave out of a southern port. Sailing out of NYC is never a good idea in the winter, either, as you may run into bad weather then, as was evident from the nightmarish cruise the Anthem encountered awhile back. Sorry you had to experience it. As for excursions, next time you cruise, book all your excursions prior to cruising, online in your cruise account. That way you get the cruise you desire, and it's paid for before you leave.
