Review summary

CONs: I understand it's an old ship and the decor looks outdated like many of the older ones that leave from NOLA, Houston, Mobile, etc. I was more disappointed by the overall cleanliness and maintenance. We stayed a balcony room (7349) and had many problems from Day 1. The door hinge was broken and won't completely close so that we had to sleep with the door slightly open. There was gunk and mold growing in the sealant of the bathroom; the sink missed the cap in the hole and exposed a huge nasty inside. My MIL and her friends' room on Deck 6 was even worse. They requested a room with twin beds and a bunker above the sofa for three people but they got a room with a TINY trundle bed (like children's crib!) that won't even pull out. One of them ended up sleeping on the sofa the entire cruise.

I could see Carnival's cutting the expenses and there was no amenity at all other than a hand soap, shower gel, and shampoo (from the containers in the shower area), speaking of which, does not create any lather at all and would just make your hair greasy. We made a huge mistake of being on Carnival Triumph during the peak holiday season at the expense of $899/pp, which would have normally cost around $399/pp and we truly regret. I won't be on Carnival cruise and old vessel cruise for a long time.

PROs: the Guy burger was pretty decent. Itinerary was nice. We enjoyed Mayan Ruins tour and Everybody loves Rays tour.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

- The "American Fare" in the main dining dinner seems just another word for "cutting cost" cruise meal. If you order flat iron steak, it's like chewing cardboard. Instead, lobster tail, filet mignon and New York strip steak on the menu carry $20 extra charge. - Roomservice menu is limited compared to a few years ago.

Ship Quality

- The layout of the Deck 2 & 3 is inconvenient and you can't walk through on those two floors unless you go up to Deck 4 and go down. I think the purpose of the floor plan is to have people to walk through casinos and shops. Ah well. - See my review on the stateroom.

Ship tip

Avoid this cruise at all cost unless one finds a value in eating unlimited Golden Coral for 5 nights.

If he did go to guest services I sure hope he  didn't talk " in capital letters".

It's the way of this society today. I'm special and better than the next person.

Sorry to read that you were less than happy on your cruise.  Perhaps booking a newer ship would improve matters.

If you think that during the OFF season, you would pay only $399pp for a balcony cabin on a 5 night cruise, think again!
