Review summary
When my friend suggested this cruise we did our research. We found that Triumph has had its share of problems. The price was really good so we decided to give them a try.
We live in Texas so getting to Galveston was easy for us. Parking was nice and the shuttle brought the driver right back to the terminal. The line to board was long but it moved right along. The staff was friendly and helpful. By the time we were ready to board our room was ready.
Arriving to our room we found one suitcase at the door, a second on just down the hall and had to wait for about 30 minutes for the third one. There were 3 traveling. We unpacked, met our steward and then it was time to go to the safety muster. Our room was very nice and seemed larger than the room my husband and I had with RCCL. There was enough space for 3 women to put everything away. Impressive! The negative in our room was there seemed to be an issue with the AC and there is no frig. Our steward brought us a box fan that really helped and kept two ice buckets full of ice through out the cruise. By the third day of the cruise the AC was fixed.
After the safety muster we looked around the ship, got a snack and watched the sail away party on the lido deck. I had to participate! My friends took video. By this time it was 6 pm and we decided to rest and then get ready for dinner.
We did not attend the first night's entertainment, but we wish we had. It had been a long day and we wanted to relax. We chose late assigned seating in the Paris dinningroom. We truly enjoyed our dinner partners. We dined with a family that has sailed several times on the Triumph. They were even on the infamous "Poop Cruise". They spoke very highly of Carnival and the staff for the way they handeled a bad situation.
On the sea days we enjoyed the brunch in the Paris dinning room. The food was very good and the service was perfect. We enjoyed the ships entertainment throughout the day and the performance that evening was wonderful as it was everynight
Our excursions were the best. In Cozumel we went to La Casa La Playa. Here we took a short bus ride to a home that had a private beach, fresh water pool, our own waiters, cook and guide. We swam, snorkled had all we could drink and a wonderful lunch that was made to order. We then rode the bus back to the port and did a little shopping. In Progreso we went to the Dzibilchaltun Ruins with Mexican Rodeo and Buffet. Oh this was the best! The ruins were fasanating, although we could have, we did not swim in the cnote. It was a little too murkey for our liking. We then went to La Bontia Ranchero (I think that is the name) where we were treated to a wonderful Mexican horse show and dancing. Our buffet was some the best food we had on the whole cruise! The staff was very nice and helpful. There were vendors selling items that were nice and reasonably priced. You can always haggle over the price and it is expected. We headed back to the port and did a little shopping and was back on the ship.
Overall we decided we would sail with Carnival again. It is not as classy as Royal Carabbian but is great for the price.
