Review summary
My wife, my son, and myself left out of Galveston on the 24th. To start out our room 7222 was way too warm. I asked the room housekeeper if he could help and he stated the rooms normally cooled down once the ship started sailing. The room never cooled down. The second night of our trip I was contacted by my family and was told my dad was on life support in Anchorage Alaska. I got with guest service's and explained the situation and they were very accommodating! They gave me free internet and the main manager personally walked me through customs and off the boat first so I could catch the first flight out of Cozumel. The customer service on the ship was second to none and I will be forever grateful! I contacted the trip insurance company as soon as I got off the ship and they stated I was eligible for full reimbursement of all incurred expenses since my trip was interrupted but to keep all my receipts. They also stated they needed a doctors note saying that my dad illness was life threatening. I did everything they asked and faxed everything they needed a few days after I got back. My father ended up passing away the next Monday. Three weeks later they called and asked me a few questions and said they would be emailing me with the final say on reimbursement. The total of my out of pocket expenses were $3600. They then told me that they could only refund me $386. Felix, a customer service rep for the company said that they could not refund me any more than I paid for my trip. I paid $1333 dollars and after taxes and fees it was well over 2k, and then $3600 in added expenses for traveling to see my father before he died. I paid $150 for the insurance!! I tried to reason with Felix and was told that I should have read the fine print of the contract and that he would have never incurred those expenses without fully understanding the contract. Long story short my family did not enjoy the trip at all because of the situation and the (insurance) I paid over 10% of the total price was completely worthless!!!

Very sorry for your your fathers passing. I do agree from your review Carnival went above and beyond in helping you all they could.
Travel insurance is like any other insurance, you have to read the policy to see what is and what is not covered. I always get more coverage then just the price of the cruise so it will also cover air lines and hotels that had been paid for.
From your review I would give the Insurance company "Zero" stars and I would give Carnival 4 or 5 for the all the help they gave you in your time of need.
Again my sympathy to your family.

First, we are very sorry for your loss.
I agree w/CrusinTim with regard to the one star rating. It is hard to fathom how difficult your overall experience was but it sounded like you gave Carnival high ratings for their support during an extremely difficult time.
Perhaps after some time has passed you could review the insurance contract and decide whether or not to appeal the initial determination.

My condolences on the passing of your Father. In the first half of your review, you express how accommodating Carnival was in helping you through the situation. In the latter half, you complain about your trip insurance company. Is this what you are basing your one star rating on? If so, it is wrong. This is a review of the Carnival Triumph not your insurance company. Although you did have issues with your A/C, that in itself I feel does not qualify for only a 1 star rating unless you were on the ship for the whole cruise and they never fixed it.
