First thing I’ll repeat is in the end it was still a cruise and not work! However as previously mentioned we very EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the quality of food choices, especially in the main dining room! We were also somewhat stunned by the number of service staff, bartenders etc that were VERY UNFRIENDLY and UNWELCOMING! This is the service industry and you have a captive audience for 5 days. If you cannot interact with the passengers in a friendly, welcoming manor find another occupation! We’ve been on probably 6-7 other cruises, including most with Carnival, and this was easily the least friendly staff and worst food of any of them
Embarkation
3 out of 5
A lot of walking at this port from parking to checkin which we found to be ok but somewhat unorganized on arrival times
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
VERY DISAPPOINTED with the choices in the main dining room! Can’t believe spaghetti and lasagna were menu choices on different nights and fillet mignon and lobster tail were $23 upcharges! Gone are the days of unlimited good steak, lobster tails, prawn etc with multiple good dessert choices! The buffets I found unappealing and usually opted for the wood fired pizza which was delicious!
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
The main pool is more of a puddle…. Very small even by cruise ship standards. We played pool, saw a couple ok shows, played bingo, and spent nights in the casino where we had very good luck!
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Not a knock against the entertainers. It was evident they were giving it their all and they were good. My wife enjoyed the two shows she went to and I found the 1 I attended to be ok
Children's Programs
No kids with us
Service and Staff
1 out of 5
Our room steward Ludo was awesome greeting us by name every time he saw us even from a distance! He did a great job in our room and was one of only a couple of service staff that made us feel welcome. The other was a bartender (hate that I can’t remember his name) at the Red Frog rum bar by the pool who was very good! That is where it ends. Most other staff seem unfriendly/unwelcoming and treated us at times like a bother! In particular the bar on deck 3 where you embark the ship was HORRIBLE! I understand during very busy times having to wait for service, but we waited even when 2 bartenders present and only 1 other couple at the bar! When they finally did get to us very unfriendly! I had an incident in the dining room during breakfast buffet where asked a team member passing by if there was any ketchup available as there were no bottles left in condiment tray, and his response was “I’m sure there’s more coming” and he walked away! Another team member I subsequently asked was kind enough to retrieve a bottle for me from one of the tables. Also be ware we had the Cheers drink package and a team member approached us at the pool area with rum drinks in a turvis. We told him we had the Cheers package and was like “yeah, yeah “
When we checked our sail and sign account next day found they charged us around $20 each for the turvises, which we did not want or need. A nice young lady at guest services was kind enough to promptly remove those charges, she was wonderful!
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
The ship was mainly clean but is old and dated and it is very evident. Many areas need repainting and rusted bolts if some areas. I’m aware the last 2 years have been very difficult on the cruise industry with the pandemic, and it is obvious they are cutting corners in upkeep as well as other areas
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We loved our cabin! First time booking a suite and it was spacious and loved having the balcony! Nice sitting area outside bathroom with 3 large mirrors fir my wife to do her hair/makeup and lots of closet space.
Ship tip
Don’t set ur expectations too high and just enjoy that you are on a cruise and not at work!
We enjoyed Nassau! Wish we spent 2 days here and skipped private island. Took cheap taxi ($5 per person) to Atlantis and found it to be wonderful! Also doesn’t time visiting local shops around port
Overall was pretty good. Tough part was finding elevator from 7th floor to deck 3 due to everyone leaving. The wait for shuttle to parking lot was quite long so I made the prob 1/2-3/4 mile walk to the parking area to get car while my wife waited with the luggage. Not the most convenient, especially in the heat, but
Please do your homework before booking a cruise. Carnival doesn’t hide the fact that the pool is small. You could have watched more than a dozen YouTube Sunshine tour videos and come to that conclusion.
Wow things must have gone downhill in the past 3 weeks. At the beginning of July the food choices were awesome. Even included a few of the best choices from the Italian restaurant being it was closed. The staff was extremely polite and helpful. Lobster has been an upcharge option for years and not available on shorter sailings for free. They must have had a rough month.
Thanks for being honest. Sorry it didn’t go well for you, maybe next time it’ll be better. Ships are still dealing with staff shortages maybe they were just super exhausted.
Thanks for the review. Most of the issues you mention with food, service and other things are common now across all cruise lines. Cruising is not the same as it was prior to Covid, so expectations need to be lowered.
