Review summary

Thank You Carnival! Our family suffered an unexpected death 3 days before our Cruise date. I’m so thankful how everyone from Carnival worked with our family. It was a Journey for us to a Journey Cruise. It’s was a Cruise we will never forget.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Because my dad passed just 3 days before our embarkation, I must say that Carnival was very accommodating in helping us join the Sunshine Journey Cruise in St. Thomas. I already had respect for Carnival but I have a much greater respect now. Everyone from the lowest to the highest seemed like they bent over backwards to ensure we was able to join up st St Thomas. Thank You!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Everything was so nice and clean. Foid was always available.

Guy's Burger Joint

5 out of 5

Loved the burgers. I don’t eat the bread but they prepared them burgers like I like them. We live on an raise Black Angus. Them burgers were awesome. Loved the crispy fries and the codement station was always stocked and fresh. Friendly smiles from servers are always a plus.

Lido Marketplace

4 out of 5

Always seemed fresh and all the servers and waiters were very refreshing. Thanks for making our unplanned visits a refreshing experience.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Pool, shade reclining as I have skin cancer. I sometimes had a little trouble finding an outside shaded area but staff would always help when I ask. Fitness, walk and walk some more.

Pixels Gallery

Loved the pictures. We got some really good shots. After my purchase I did notice a couple of postures that possibly could have been better. The price seemed a little high but I had to have them. I wish I had of got a canvas but I didn’t. I wish I had of got a few more but I didn’t. Now they are gone gone.

Guest Services and Excursions Desk

I’m so thankful that we were personally met by Carnival Personell to board us onto the ship at St.Thomas. They were all very professional and even ensured we were safely boarded. We had our own person muster drill. How cool is that? Safety First!!!!!!

Serenity

Loved MY time. I just need more options for shade as I’m a skin cancer patient.

Entertainment

All I attended were great.

Children's Programs

We had no children. I did walk into a couple children areas and I was like wow this is great.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I never met any Cruise staff that was bad. Our room stewards were awesome. I always save my little room towel critters and take pictures the last day of them. Since I missed the first two days I ask our steward if he could make me the ones I missed. He said sure!!! He made them and we made pictures. It don’t get any better than that. Yes we tipped him good up front but I’m sure he would have done that even if we hadn’t of tipped him.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Very clean. The layout was a little confusing sometimes when I was trying to go from front to back on certain floors.

Cabin / Stateroom

I did not like how the Monkey picture people took my camera and then charged me to take a picture of me with their monkey with my camera. All the actual port employees were great. Had no trouble with them.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

No excursion. We did have to meet with customs though. 06:30 was kinda early but they just looked at our birth certificates and seemed kinda stunned that we boarded in St Thomas but said everything is good. Thank you all again!

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

5 out of 5
Zip lined. Loved the area and the atmosphere. The thing I did not like was we could not find any Amber Cove Tee Shirts. When we ask why the locals would say they didn’t want Carnival to get any more money. I bought an Amber Cove Tee from the ship. However we like embroidered tees. We will servive though.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
I’m rating high because in the end I understood why. However we were caught off guard when I was being scanned off and was pulled away from my family. Then my husband joined because his scan was the same. We ended up being escorted to the front of the line and having to wait on the rest of our family. It’s because we joined in St Thomas. I did hear many people complaining that this was the worse disembarkation they had every been in. I think it may of been because we arrived a little behind time or something.

Technically you aren’t supposed to be able to do this without a passport because it’s not a closed loop cruise if you boarded in St. Thomas. You got very lucky.
