Carnival Sunshine

8 Night Eastern Caribbean (Port Canaveral Roundtrip)

Sail date: April 16, 2016

Ship: Carnival Sunshine

Cabin type: Inside

Cabin number: 6195

Traveled as: Family (older children)

Review summary

Carnival really sacrificed the comfort and customer service for their bottom line. Service was terrible due to ship overcrowding and not enough space. Food suffered, their staff was grouchy, and the space to enjoy the sun on deck was non existent. Won't ever go on this ship again.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
First time buffet dining has had SAME food every day. No variety. Not the greatest tasting. Pizza was excellent, as well as burgers. Diningroom was less than good. Had much better on other Carnival ships. Service was slow, missed shows last 2 nights due to slow service. 2 1/2 hrs from start to finish.

Onboard Activities

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Our room steward Jurata was EXCELLENT! Diningroom staff were slow and grouchy. Probably because ship was so crowded.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Hated walking thru smoke filled casino to get to dinner. Not enough room for all the guests. Shows are packed and venues are too small.

Cabin / Stateroom

Ship tip

Don't sail on the Sunshine. They sacrificed customer service and comfort for the bottom line when they redesigned it from the Destiny. Worst cruising ship we've been on.

There's thousands of people and only so much space for chairs you have to expect that not everyone will be able to find a chair at all times

The layout of this ship is the problem, all common areas are small and walkways are very narrow. Most of the staff were more then friendly but some weren't and they were the ones whom you tended to see the most. Great itinerary (we did 8 day southern out of port canaveral) but for that trip the bigger ships would have been better!

I don't even bother trying to get a chair by the pool on any ship. I head to the serenity deck & see what I can find. And this serenity deck has a pool so that's a good start

Yes they added more cabins. We were on it for spring break but never had a problem finding a deck chair. You might not find a seat by the pool but there are a lot of other places to sun. As far as the food goes there are so many different places to eat I can't believe you had a problem. Evidently you are one of those cronic complainers.

When it became the Sunshine, didn't they add more cabin decks on? I could see how that would make this ship overcrowded.

I loved the Sunshine. I liked the way it was cut up into different sections. I guess it just depends on your preference & ability to adjust.

We tried everwhere, we are not new to cruising. The layout of this ship is really weird compared to other Carnival ships. It looked nice, but the flow of foot traffic can be frustrating.

It would be impossible for them enough chairs for everyone. Did you try the serenity deck?

We had a really hard time finding chairs out on the decks also. We walked around for 20 minutes until a couple got up and left. It was horrible.

The Sunshine is HUGE. You couldn't choose another deck? ALL of the food was bad? ALL of the staff was grouchy? How is it possible to be overcrowded when there are only a certain number of cabins?
