Review summary

After sailing on other Carnival Cruise Ships, the "refurbished" Sunshine was a total disappointment.  First, the delay in boarding the ship because of a Gastrointestinal outbreak and extra cleaning needed was understandable, but the uncomfortable conditions in the long lines required a lot of standing!  The service, other than our Room Steward and a couple of servers, was very poor and the attitude of the waiters was subpar, to say the least. One in our party has been sick every since we got back. I question the fact that we were not updated as to any additional problems on our cruise.  We should have been kept informed and updated on a regular basis as to what areas to avoid!

Our steward was very good and did what I asked.

Ship tip

The Sunshine is very chopped up and it is not easy to get from Fwd to Aft. No deck that goes all the way around on the outside. It was impossible to use sit at the pool. Seats were saved for all day long. The Serenity deck was the same, nothing available.

Lmlester you must've been on the same cruise I was! March 5th? I agree it wasn't the best situation or service (especially for my first cruise) but I'm going to try other cruise lines. Come to find out tho if the stateroom had yellow tabs on their door it meant they were sick....I don't know if it's like that on every cruise but it would've been nice to receive updates like u said.....

ncl has so so food and we don't like it. we only cruise carnival

courtneywills    8 years ago

Ok so not to sound mean but lmlester if you were booked on a cruise everyone got a letter in their email about the virus so really it's at ur own risk , an yes it may have been a pain that u had to wait so long to get on the ship but I'd rather wait then go on when they just had an outbreak, an people forgot carnival is a more affordable cruise line for family it's not a luxury cruise.

Alot for sure. Do you get better deals cruising in Europe? Or just cheaper to take vacation by land?

rendezvoussam    8 years ago

We used to fly (we live in Europe) to Florida and take two weeks cruise in the Caribbean, a family of 4 usually cost no less than US $ 15,000 for the basic cruise & tips.

Wow...we do carnival so much because prices are usually a little better. But we are looking at RC to try out. Did NCL, not a fan. We live in the southern states and wish I could afford to cruise every month.

I was on the sunshine 2014 we didn't have any problem everything was great.

rendezvoussam    8 years ago

So you're a big Carnival fan :). I see Carnival have very competitive prices, If I live in the Southern States I'll go cruising every month, In Europe we get charge almost 7 times more for a similar cruises.

banaford, just to quench the curious mind, which cruise ship you haven't been on? :)

banaford    8 years ago

I don't remember. It has been a yr since on the sunshine. Perhaps at Jiji asian kitchen. Lido deck, in the back.

Yeah we've been on the sunshine couple times I thought it was great. Anthony time they have that virus going around its got to screw things up. Do u know if they still have the Mongolian wok on there. It shows they don't have one

I've only sailed Carnival once and choose to stick with Norwegian.

How would they know what areas were causing the sickness, so you could avoid? If that is what you were saying, that makes no sense. We have been on Sunshine 2 times. It is a funky layout, but always had a great cruise. Sorry it was not for you. Better luck next time whatever you pick!
