better than expected for 60 year old couple

Sail Date: February 20, 2015

Reviewed: 1 year ago

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

oceanview room was spacious and king bed was great.  big shower and plenty of closet & drawers.  food was very good, (lobster nite, prime rib, steaks, steak & egg breakfast etc in dining room).  dance and singing shows were good, piano bar sing along was great and comics were okay.  had to get in line early to get a seat at some shows.  buffet food and special lunch food (italian/stir fry) were good and taco/burgers also.  would have liked more ship activity for days at sea.  more 50+ passengers than expected on carnival.  few children and they had activities/area separate so noise was not bad.  8 day cruise may have made a difference here...  casino games all seem to have gimmics and are not standard vegas style except crap table.  drink package cost $920 per couple and is not worth it.  all drinks are very costly.  $5 beer is cheapest and a shame when you can get a beer off boat for $1.  they need a modified drink package that you can enjoy.  excursions are very expensive and minimal assistance for island info except to take a excursion.  cruise price is cheap but they get you big time for drinks and excursions.  overall, not bad.

Ship Quality
good, clean but hard to get around. needed to cut through casino to get to dinner
Food and Dining
better than expected. well cooked and good choices. get 2nds easy
Service and Staff
edy the waiter was great. we chose anytime dining and some wait staff was poor. I would chose set dining time to get the same waiter all the time and tip seperately
Entertainment
no big names but fun/good. not enough ship activity when at sea (pool games, etc)
Children's Programs
seemed ok but we did not have children with us
Onboard Activities
not enough happening when full day at sea. just go to the pool or casino....
Destinations and Excursions
excursions seem to cost way too much. we snorkelled once .
Cabin / Stateroom
plenty of room
Port Canaveral, Florida
you can arrive very early and get on ship. getting off taking your luggage was a zoo with no controls by staff
Grand Turk Island
snorkle was okay and cheapest excursion for the whole trip. good beach right there.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
be careful/specific about taxi destination. dropped of in old town and not good
San Juan, Puerto Rico
not much at port
Philipsburg, St. Maarten
wonderful beach day for 15-25

Tip

hard to get from front to back. rooms were great. drinks are outrageous. with the cost of booze so low it seems a shame they charge so much. if you buy liquor, verify you get the right stuff. we got wrong bottles delivered and did not check while on board the ship.
