• Man I wish Miami was closer… Such a great cruise port, 3 great stops on a 5 night cruise, perfect weather and the absolute smoothest Atlantic seas I have ever experienced, a fantastic early summer cruise!

Review summary

The Sunrise is a fantastic ship. The crew is friendly & happy to serve their valued guests. The destinations from Miami was outstanding. Nassau will be a great stop once the new port center opens. Half Moon Cay is the best beach in the Caribbean. Grand Turk snorkeling is second to none. What an unforgettable cruise thanks to the Sunrise & Carnival team!

• The priority boarding for platinum is back... Just walked on the ship! We skipped the long lines and went straight to security. Our arrival appt was 10am, and we arrived around 12pm.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
o Breakfast in the dining room was fast, not much of a wait. Broken egg sandwich was yummy. o The Lido breakfast buffet wasn’t open early enough for the Half Moon Cay stop. Next time we’ll do room service on very early port days. o No waiting for our group of 7 at sea day brunch! Always a great brunch menu with high quality food & service! o Lots of awesome dinner menu selections on the final day of the cruise! Love the baked Alaska for dessert! o Still waiting for bran cereal to show up as part of breakfast. We eat so much bread on cruises, the bran cereal is necessary to keep things flowing. Please get us some bran fiber options!

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
o Fitness center was open @ 6:00am and not too crowded. Jogging track was sunny & not too breezy. o Early morning workout & jog on the track gets the sea day started out right! o Teenage roaming gang showed up in the fitness center at 6:00am this morning causing mischief on the weight machines & leaving their shirts randomly on the floor. Showed up 20 minutes later on the basketball court wearing Crocs playing ball. SMH… Really wish these annoyances would disappear on cruise vacations. o Fun sunny & warm sea day on deck, the kids really enjoyed the ropes course on the Sunrise. o Really enjoyed the diamond platinum party where we won the “guess the ship” contest! It was fun to have new friends Eric, Jacki, Mark, & Deb join us at the event.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
o Sail away show was fun & energetic! o 70s & Motown lobby music with Georgia & DJ Scratchy was entertaining. Really fun to see guests participating with the entertainment team. o The Vintage Pop show was really good! Glad to see some new & different shows on a Carnival ship! o Not too happy with the Tina Turner showdown between Georgia & the male fun squad member. So we’re doing drag on Carnival ships now? Plus she died a day or two later, maybe the spoof killed her? o We really enjoy Deal or No Deal, but some contestants are way over the top. Not sure how to control crazy drunk people from getting up on the stage. o The Mega Deck Party with Georgia was high energy & really crowded! How does she have the energy to keep going? Love the new line dances. o The new Soulscape show was creepy. Not a fan of the “day of the dead” genre.

Service and Staff

o Same day laundry service is outstanding! Bringing less clothes on a cruise makes things easier.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
o Movies on demand in the staterooms are an awesome perk! However we still would like to see sporting events like hockey or basketball playoffs available in our staterooms. o Absolutely freezing in the Sky Box Sports Bar; they need to adjust the thermostat! o Another fun night in the Sky Box Sports Bar watching hockey & NBA conference finals! o Love the Red Frog Pub & the foosball table in the back. Hours of entertainment on a sea day!

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
o Rooms are pretty big & wide open. Not as much drawer space, but tons of closet space. o There is a heavy mildew smell in our stateroom. Pretty sure the floor drain is backing up and soaking the floor towel. o Heavy marijuana smell on this ship. There was a drug dog & handler upon boarding at Port of Miami, but nothing at all when we reboarded at Nassau. Carnival really needs to police this problem better.

Ship tip

- There are USB charging ports built into the vanity wall, but they are located in odd places. We still bring the approved power strip with USB & std plug ports. - Take advantage of the earlier 6am open time of the fitness center. Most ships open the fitness center at 7am.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

Nassau, Bahamas

4 out of 5
o Enjoyable daypass from Resort for a Day at the Margaritaville beach! Plenty of sun and cool water temps! Junkanoo Beach was nearby so we could get cheap beer & conch fritters. o The new Nassau cruise port is going to be very nice once it opens next weekend. o The streets in Nassau are pretty gross. Lots of street vendors pushing cigars, bracelets, car rides. We didn’t feel unsafe except when the drunk homeless men showed up & got really loud with pedestrians.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

5 out of 5
o Platinum guests get the first water shuttle! It’s nice to get off the ship first thing at tender ports. o Gorgeous day in Half Moon Cay. We walked all the way down to the tree line to avoid the crowds & the noise. Also nice to have some shade! o Island barbecue at Half Moon Cay was tasty! Love the jerk chicken with beans & rice!

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
o Glorious & HOT day in Grand Turk. Used White Sands Charters to sail & snorkel on the reefs. Props to Capt Don & McKenzie for a great day of snorkeling. o Really enjoyed lunch with Rudy at Island Jerk in the locals village. Great BBQ ribs with rice & beans. Also gave us a bucket of beers gratis! Rudy is a jerk!

Disembarkation

• Walked off the ship around 7:20am, love the early disembarkation options for diamond & platinum people. Clint with the entertainment team had it organized very well, lining up luggage & keeping people in order of arrival. Only a couple of jerks jumped the queue. • Still loving the CBP kiosks with facial recognition. Keeps people moving off the ship & heading home quickly. • Port of Miami is an absolute maze of roads & barriers. Add traffic into the maze of roads & barriers, I don’t understand why anyone likes this port. • Wish the Sunrise had some coffee & breakfast food available for diamond & platinum guests waiting to disembark. We really appreciated this benefit on the Glory & Paradise. It would be nice if this offered fleetwide. • Finally a cruise when no one was arrested for fighting upon arriving back in the US, thus allowing disembarkation to stay on schedule. Now let’s get the marijuana problem under control.
