Review summary

My name is Jeff. My family and I took a 8 day cruise on August 19th from New York to Eastern Caribbean on Carnival Sunrise. We had a Grand sweet, room 7295. They are claiming a $200 million dollar renovation, all they did was add rooms and make the common areas smaller! Our bathroom had dirty water from someone else's bathroom leaking all over our floor. It took 6 DAYS for them to correct the problem! We had to keep towels on the floor just so we could walk into the bathroom and not step in someone else's crap, and urine! On day 7 our toilet wouldn't flush and they had to come to our room again! The pool is small and overcrowded. The food is ok. The dining room is half booths, feels like a diner! It was ridiculous sliding into a booth on formal night in a suit and dress! People were smoking marijuana all over the ship, we complained about it, nothing done about it. We couldn't sit on our balcony because the marijuana smell was so bad it was making my 12yr old daughter sick. There were people smoking in the kids water areas right in front of lifeguards and nobody said anything. When we complained to security, they just walked away. Carnival offered us $500 for compensation for our room problems! I laughed at them, our room was $6500. Worst company ever, don't waste your money with them!

Food was diner quality in formal dining room, buffet took an 30 minutes to get food, and no seating to eat it!

Pool is small and overcrowded, not many activities for my 12yr old daughter. Kid's club is a joke.

The stage is small, no real shows. Music is always at max level, not enjoyable. Lots of shows about shopping on the boat thou! Very few kid's shows.

She left the kid's club after a short time, all they did was sit there and look at their phones, the staff did the same.

You have to walk through the smoking section in the casino to get anywhere, as it's the only floor you can walk all the way through.

Cabin / Stateroom

Cabin had dirty water leaking from the room above us, possible urine and fecal matter. It needed to be updated, problems with toilet flushing. Size was good, housekeeping was good.

Disembarkation

We had priority disembarkation, we were sent to 3 different floors and places, carrying luggage, before I complained and finally had someone take us off the boat.

I smelled weed all week long, morning, noon and night. We had 2 small infants with us that had to breathe that crap in while in the room every day. Carnival could care less about weed. Carnival doesn't sell weed. Sneaking drugs on the ship is OK, as long as it's not liquor that would hit them in the pocket. Definitely Royal or Norweigen. You get what you pay for. I'm just glad the ship didn't sink. What a floating dump.

To all those who think they know better. We have cruised several times before, always on Royal Caribbean, tried carnival, they failed! Take a cruise on that ship before you post a comment that I'm wrong or overreacting, thank you.

Maybe you should have partaken in the marijuana smoking. It would have chilled you out a bit and you could have enjoyed yourself.

Wow. We are sailing in 2 weeks to Canada and New England. This will be our third cruise with Carnival and always loved it. Don't let a few issues ruin your vacation.

Couldn’t agree more! I was on same cruise in suite 7269. This was my fourth cruise and there’s no doubt the only way to enjoy it is if you lower your expectations!! I felt as if I was hitching a ride and I was a bother to the crew!? The ship is way over crowded and the crew although nice for the most part didn’t seem to want to address any concerns. Don’t bother with this ship if your expecting top notch anything!!! The list of issues are endless on the particular ship so if you looking to relax and escape, you will come home more stressed and wishing you took this post more seriously. It was so bad I didn’t pay any gratuities! I paid for a suite, I paid for FTTF, I booked 3 excursions, I bought the internet package ( two teenagers) of course!, texting feature for all four of us, bubble package for the two teens........ so obviously wasn’t an attempt at being cheap. News flash..... 8 day cruise and they don’t change the sheets!! Had a couch that was only a couch the first day we boarded? Took the used robes and didn’t replace them......... shall I go on?? Lol

I was on that same cruise with my family of 4. It was the worst cruise ever. I will never sail with Carnival Cruise again. You are correct, you couldn’t even enjoy the balcony as it always smelled like weed. It was a mess and plus the attitudes of the staff was disgusting... never sailing with Carnival Cruise line again

I was on this cruise. It was the roughest crowd we have cruises with. I agree with everything. The ship is old - and they added cabins to make the ship more congested. 3900 people on this ship and it’s too much. Cruise again but not this ship and maybe even not this line. I have been loyal to carnival until now but no more. Try some of the others and you will see what a cruise experience should be.

Other than the bathroom issue, Sounds like regular cruise ordeals. Maybe fly your family out to a resort next time and skip the cruising experience. It's not for everyone

It seems like cruising may not be for you. Most people love it, but it’s not for everyone. We have been on multiple cruise lines including Carnival and I always had a great time
