Review summary

This was not one of most relaxing or enjoyable cruises. I don't feel this was Carnival's usual level of quality.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We were on the ship in our room quicker because of the little known Faster to the fun option. Which is about $100 extra. It let's you get on board and disembark quicker than most guests and get you luggage a bit quicker too.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The food and staff was excellent in the specialty steak place Fahrenheit 555. DELICIOUS!! Patrick was out server and was prompt, courteous and had a great sense of humour. I recommend the Chef's table dessert!! The buffets lines were horrible! Very long wait and lots of people! I think they were wrong to add over a 1000 more guest capacity and making one feel squished and like cattle in line! Restaurants were better!!

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I didn't have much access to the pools and whirpools as they were usually over crowded. but the SPA was amazing! Special shout out to Courtney who did my resurfacing facial, Jacquelyn who did my seaweed wrap massage and Dr. Felipe who did my pain relief acupuncture.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
I went to the battle of the genders. kid friendly version, which was funny and entertaining. One of the adult comedy shows was mediocre.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Sunijata our head table was quick, attentive and knowledgeable. He knew his food and his recommendations were on point. Patrick in the steak house Fahrenheit 555 made us feel spoiled as well. Courtney, Jacquelyn and Dr. Felipe in the spa were amazing. But they were all freindly there, Amanda greeted me usually with a smile and genuine interest and Melissa in the salon, was always cheery and full of sunshine when I'd see her in passing! Wayan and his helper our room stewards, were amazing, friendly, attentive and good at what they do!

Ship Quality

The ship was immaculate. Always kept clean and pleasant looking inside and out!

Cabin / Stateroom

This is where me and my family had a problem. Family of 3 in a tiny room, that was smaller than advertised and very little room to move around in. This was like a mini balcony and should be limited to two people not 3. I've had many balconies before on this size ship and this was misleading. It was an over priced balcony cabin, that should of been priced as an ocean view, especially with the obstructed view. Also this particular cabin's wall was extremely thin and we heard EVERYTHING in the cabin next door, 1005. We got very little sleep and it was not a relaxing vacation nor area. Note this was supposed to be closer to the spa it felt closer to a bar or kid's area as many people were selfishly rude or not watching their kids. Something to think about when you think closer to spa!

Ship tip

2 pieces of advice. Get the FTTF option, you get on and off quicker! Avoid room 1001 unless your a very sound sleeper and traveling solo or with 1 other person. Room is small!

Ports of call

Embarkation/disembarkation point, on and off quickly!

Grand Turk Island

This year's visit was horrible! we couldn't walk five minutes on the beach without being harassed if we wanted to buy a chair and umbrella. They were even charging for things that stated were included clams shells, chairs, umbrellas by Carnival. So keep your eyes peeled for that sign as you enter the shopping area and access to the beach. The local chair guards were price gouging too. We've been here 3 years in a row and there was no need for it. The beach and shopping are was clean. But we didn't even get to relax at the beach because of the locals trying to get us to buy a chair. Mind you you can sit on your towel for FREE and they were trying to discourage that!

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Beautiful port, didn't feel pressured, the area was clean, rebuilt more from last year since they had the hurricane. More restaurants and shop open and felt safe, no political uproars!

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

Very relaxing and was serviced nicely. They weren't pushy in offering drinks or food and when we did ask for an umbrella the server came promptly! Plenty of FREE chairs and space by the pools and bars. The music was a great mix and we enjoyed this port alot just to get off our feet and relax!

Disembarkation

We chose the FTTF option, we got off quicker than most people. BUT they fell short when alot of guests showed at the instructed area to get off, at the designated time and then to be told last minute oh go down more flight, it was changed. Mind you we had our luggage which was heavy an of course the elevators were slow because everyone trying to use them. I was a bit angered by this. I didn't lug my luggage up the stairs or at all, the ship did it. SO why am I dragging it down stairs. They could have made an announcement for us simply stating change in disembarkation point for FTTF, which would alleviated getting off wrong floor and carrying our luggage. We just would have stayed on elevator til proper floor and then get off at the right spot.
