Review summary

Our vista stateroom and the staff made our cruise! We can't wait until 2020 and returning to Hawaii!

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Arrived a bit earlier than we intended, but since they weren't real busy, we were onboard ship in 30 minutes!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
There were things on menu that came out perfect, others that could never come out anything but awful. Staff everywhere were exceptional in making each dining experience a delight. It's just some of the chef's must have been having "issues". Buffets were generally okay. The BBQ place on second level was not good. I think because not enough folks ate there. So later in day the meat was not at it's best.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
My quiet, shy husband participated in several contests! I was stunned. He had a great time!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
So enjoyed and a big part of why my husband and I love cruising :-)

Children's Programs

no kids!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Incredible service. Our steward was always there when we needed help. Always had a smile and "Hello!" Staff in MDR over the tops in service and accommodating any requests we had.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Splendor was a little tired and layout is quirky, but always clean. I imagine the salt air is unkind to paint and steel.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We had the vista balcony stateroom. Only 6 of this type of cabin on Splendor and we snagged for a bargain fare. The balcony gave us views of the aft and starboard side of the ship! I spent so much time, just watching the ocean flow past. Saw dolphins, flying fish, sea birds!

Ship tip

Don't forget your binoculars! Spend time watching the ocean. To see wild dolphins is an experience I will never forget!

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

5 out of 5
Huge terminal with lots of staff. Well organized for embarkation :-)

Kahului, Maui

4 out of 5
Excursion to pineapple plantation a disappointment and not as advertised. We decided to take a taxi and really enjoyed just walking around downtown.

Honolulu, Oahu

5 out of 5
Pearl Harbor is not to be missed and will take days to fully explore. We are both looking forward to returning on our next cruise to Hawaii in 2020.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

5 out of 5
It's a tender-port, but Splendor staff had everything well organized and extremely careful about safety. Kona is right on the beach and the locals have a flea market set up right on the waterfront. Take time to walk up a couple blocks, to get to the real Kona. We enjoyed the "tourist" shops as well as the local artists with their shops.

Hilo, Hawaii

5 out of 5
We took a LONG bus tour! Was fun, but really too long for us ;-) Driver was fantastic and oh so fun! We didn't really get to any shopping venues except Big Hawaiian Chocolates, but that was fine for us.

Ensenada, Mexico Did not visit port

Wasn't really interested and time so very short.

Disembarkation

Horrible! Was going orderly and as video in our room told us. Then about 1/4 of the way of calling embarkation numbers (for an orderly debarkation) they stopped calling numbers and just told everyone to debark A.S.A.P. It became absolute chaos!!! and took us over 90 minutes to just make it to customs.
