It's too bad about the fumes, otherwise a great trip! I would travel on Carnival again, but not this ship. I would definitely do this itinerary again, the ports were awesome.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
They have streamlined the embarkation process so it is super smooth and fast! The room was ready early which was really nice.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
As always the food was spectacular. We tried pretty much everything but the Mongolian Wok (because the line was ALWAYS long). The BBQ was especially tasty. The dining room food was always great, some stand outs were the steak and lobster of course, the escargot and the Gran Mariner Souffle. Amazing!
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
The Clue game was fun, and we LOVED the Dive-In Movies. We didn't use the pool but opted for the beach chairs. The sound and picture were better than expected! Super fun to watch a movie at sea!
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The piano bar was great, most of the comedians were funny, however there was one guy that was TERRIBLE and we walked out. Comedy is subjective though, I'm sure a lot of people thought he was funny.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Fery, our room steward, was awesome. Always greeted us by name and with a smile. It seemed like he had the room made up the instant we left. He always had ice ready for us which was nice!
Ship Quality
2 out of 5
The ship was always clean, however the Splendor is showing her age and there is a lot of rust and windows that seemed stained. I go into more detail in the section about our cabin, but the ship often smelled of exhaust/sewage, in the hallways. There is also the weird thing with the galley in the middle of the ship so you have to go up or down a floor to get from forward to aft on a couple of levels.
Cabin / Stateroom

This was by far the worst part of our trip, and basically soured us on ever booking a trip on this ship again. Every time we were at port exhaust and sewage fumes were piped into our room via the air conditioning. It was bad enough to wake me out of a sound sleep and give me a migraine. We did complain about it and they did an ozone air treatment, which helped....until we docked the next day. Same thing. Each time we docked. It was really bad. Fortunately we had excursions so we didn't spend time in the cabin with the smell, but had we wanted to, it was unbearable. You also got whiffs of the odor as you walked through the hallways. I would absolutely NEVER book a cruise on this ship again because of this.
Ship tip
Sorry, but I would and have told people I know not to book on this ship with the exhaust fume/sewage odor issues.
Cabo Adventures Luxury Day Sail was amazing. Highly recommended. We spent the second day just in town and it was fun too. We did a glass bottom boat tour out to the arch which was fun!
Puerto Vallarta Adventures Sea Safari excursion was so much fun. A 6 1/2 hour tour that included horseback riding, snorkeling, boating and lunch on the beach.
I also want to know, which deck? Which cabin? If you were aft I would expect that. If you were mid to front of the ship I'm curious which cabin you were in. Do tell ;-)
I’m nervous reading about the fumes. I suffer from migraines and if I get one, I’m down for at least a full day. Which deck/s were the fume smells the worst in?
