We were on this ship in January 2015. Being an older, refurbished ship we weren't sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised the first time and when we saw a great deal on this cruise we decided to try it again. We were not disappointed!
Embarkation was one of the best. We were on the ship and eating lunch within one hour from arrival.
I would like to comment on the smoking policy. I'm aware that smoking is frowned upon everywhere, however, there are still quite a bit of smokers. Since it is no longer permitted in the cabins (or balconies if you have one), there should be an additional designated inside area. And all areas where it is permitted should have ample ashtrays.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Food was good to very good. Lobster Tail, Chateaubriand, Filet Mignon and Escargot were each served one night in the main dining room at no additional charge. Hot soups in the main dining room were great. Buffet had great pizza, grilled hamburgers and sandwiches, French fries and salad bar. Disappointed with the Mongolian Wok, especially after waiting quite a long while. Too spicy and unappetizing. Seaday Brunch was very good.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Normal cruise activities. Would have liked to have seen some of the movies that were shown outside on the big screen but they only showed them once and changed daily. Would have been nice if they were available in the room (at no charge) as on other cruise lines.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Shows in the main showroom need to be updated. Pretty much the same as in January. They need better choreography. Don't mind seeing the same shows if they're good. The dancers and live band are great, however, the singers are not. Especially the woman that sang for the Michael Jackson tribute. We stayed until the end, however, about half of the crowd had left at some point during the show. In 20+ cruises we have never seen that many people leave a show.
We had seen one of the comedy shows in January, but were not impressed. Thought we'd try again, however, the lines were always so long we decided it wasn't worth it.
The male trio band in the casino are were very good.
Children's Programs
5 out of 5
Not applicable for us. However, observed during the cruise and kids seemed to be having a great time.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our dining room staff was very efficient and dinners was served at a nice pace.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Overall nice design. Main areas were a bit crowded at times, especially in the evenings and at comedy show times. Decorated very pretty for Christmas.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
We were upgraded from an inside to an ocean view. Very nice and roomy. Picture window, however, was so dirty you could hardly see out but it was still nice having it.
We always wipe out the drawers and storage areas before unpacking. However, these areas were exceptionally dirty this time. They should be added to the checklist on turn-around days.
Not a big drinker, but always look forward to Margaritaville. Worst margarita ever, anywhere. They were very nice. Apparently the mixer machines were not working so they each had to be hand made. After the third try it was close, but very disappointing overall. Should have gone to the one in Cozumel.
