Review summary

This was my mother's first cruise in her 88 year old life and she had a ball! With a rented wheel chair she was able to go from one end of the ship to the other. We especially liked the 10th floor "boardwalk" area overlooking the vast ocean. It was breathtaking. The food was delicious and beautifully presented.  The crew from cruise director, the entertainers, room steward and waiters were honest, open, very efficient and caring, not to  mention talented and funny.

One difference on this Carnival Pride from a different cruise line was no knowledge at the service desk of any Sabbath service organized or a way to do so. (Despite that I was moved to say some prayers on our balcony, amazed by God's heaven, earth and ocean!)

The shore excursions were wonderful. I found the history of the Grand Cayman island, 1511, as well as its present use, every square mile are 600 banks very interesting and the Seven Mile Beach's white sand and clear water true to its description! Cozumel, Mexico opened our eyes to Maya Indian "ball game" which was performed live for us - one where the winner would be sacrificed to the gods only to be reincarnated should they pass the 9 tests in the underworld. The costumes, war songs, drum beats, and fast ball moves were amazing as their athletic prowess was worked to the max! This was followed by a Mexican buffet with traditional Mexican dancing with long, colorful, swirling  skirts by the women and sombreros worn by tap dancing men. Our guide, Pedro Guy, was kind to push my mother on the sandy path, showing us Maya statues, and pointing out little pineapples growing from the ground. From morning to night my mother and I were busy with cruise talks, various trivia contests, towel animal lessons, dancing, singing, eating, meeting new people, shows, musical performance, etc.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Being a vegetarian I had a lot to choose from at the Lido buffet on the 9th floor in various alternating ethnic stations as well as American vegie burgers. The sides were also delicious. On the 2nd floor's formal dining room Indian veggie dishes were on the menu as were various fishes, salads, fruits, vegetables, pastas, and yummy desserts,

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
I had great fun learning the moves on stage at the Taj Mahal room to Michael Jackson's Thriller from a dance teacher, (one of the professional evening entertainers)! Also on Beach Night I swirled a hoola hoop on stage with others and had a blast! One gentleman said, "You are a great dancer!" I answered him, "the cruise may be over but the dancing legs remain with the memories!"

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The dancers and singers were extremely professional in their voices, movements and gorgeous costumes. A thrill I had was when one of the main male dancers took my hand and brought me up on the stage to be with other volunteers to do some free style dance moves and hoola hooping!!

Children's Programs

I brought no children but I did see some people of all ages going down the windy, tall water loop and yelling out with a lot of fun!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Agapito, the head server, Rinadi, and Ivan were all attentive, remembering the drinks we started with, our typical appetizer preferences, which and how we liked our salad dressing, desserts, and were very attentive to how/what we liked for our main meal(s) as well as drinks during the meal. Their dancing and singing were wonderful, even inviting us up to join them!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Our room was cleaned twice a day! It was the right size boat for my 88 year old mother to ambulate, (lholding on to a wheel chair).

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Beautiful light, modern wood with very comfortable beds! The balcony opened the majesty of the seas to us!

Ship tip

The Lido buffet on the 9th floor afforded me very well as a vegetarian and my mother who is not! The cruse director, Steve, was always available, our rm. steward, Randy, was accommodating such as getting us extra hangers, and Agapito, our waiter, quickly memorized what we drank/ate typically.

Ports of call

Tampa, Florida

5 out of 5
Staying a day before and a day after the cruise afforded us to enjoy the beautiful palm trees as we walked on the Riverwalk, staying at the Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk Hotel, and touring the history of Tampa museum.

George Town, Grand Cayman

5 out of 5
Experience the crystal clear waters and the clean white sand of the Seven Mile Beach!!

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Front row seating to a real, live, "ball game" enacted by Maya Indian dancers, followed by Mexican dance performers in traditional dress, while enjoying vegetarian Mexican food considerately made special for me as the provided buffet was not. The organizer, Pedro Guy, of his own volition, wheeled my mother in the w/c on the tour. His consideration will always be remembered.
