Review summary

Not what it used to be. I did this cruise in 2016 and it felt safe and was more fun back then. Now after the restart staff are not prepared and undertrained. Cleaning protocol and covid mask protocol cause issues as they don't fully enforce them. Seen several people debark with a mask off at ports. It was nice having about 1,900 passengers instead of 2,600. Internet was not good on the ship as the mountains blocked signal for most of the cruise. Don't buy the internet package on the alaska cruise.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Food was no where near the quality as it was pre-covid. Most of the food was stale or not good. Only a few things were consistent in taste and quality (The hot coco, ice cream, guys burgers fries and all the fruit.)

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Activities where not good. Staff and entertainment was nothing near as good as pre-covid.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
1/15 staff I encountered gave great service. Rest didn't understand English and would fail at simple tasks and forget items requested at dinner. Even asked for fries only at guys and they gave me a burger and fries.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Basically zero covid protocol enforcement. Cleaning was not what I was expecting from all the signs they have up for how they have increased cleaning. By day 4 1/4 of passengers where coughing. By the last day over 1/2 of passengers where coughing and sneezing.

Ship tip

Wait awhile more til you cruise. Not worth it right now.

Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska

Wasn't able to get close enough to the glacier (heat wave melted ice too fast causing ice bergs.) Didn't want to pay $198/person to see the glacier up close.

Wow I was on this same cruise and had a totally different experience. I found the staff to be extremely helpful and pleasant. They also were cleaning nonstop. Jen the cruise director was hysterical. As for the food, I had a couple of things that weren’t very good but for the most part found it to be fine. I agree that the internet service wasn’t very good but they did warn us of that before you bought the service. I did take the excursion to the glaciers in Tracy Arm Fjords and it was amazing! I did see some people not wearing masks when they should have been but for the most part I found that the majority of people following the rules. Carnival probably should be more on top of the rule breakers since everyone was fully aware of the mask policy before stepping foot on the ship. I hope your next cruise experience is better for you.

Agree with a couple of others about the coughing and sneezing and how you reported the 25% and 50%. Have not seen that COVID was reported being found on the ship so what was the cause of the coughing you observed? Hopefully your next cruise will be more to your expectations.

Sorry to hear you didn’t enjoy your cruise. I’m confused how you could tell over half of 1900 passengers spread out over a massive ship were coughing and sneezing, did you ask them all to stand still so you could get round them all? Sorry I know it’s nothing to joke about, but I guess I’m saying comments like this shouldn’t really be made lightly. Everyone’s really anxious to see how these first cruises are going

So other than the food, the staff, the service, the weather, the entertainment and the implications that 25% of the guests got Covid, sounds like you had an awesome cruise. Are you sure the bed wasn't uncomfortable too?

Sorry to hear the letdowns but not really surprised. Covid has messed up practically everything.

Thanks for the comparison between then and now! Sorry it didn’t meet your expectations. So I guess if we sail during this moment in time, we should lower our expectations. 🛳
