Review summary

It was okay and my grandsons loved it. While it is not a trip I would choose for myself, it worked as a family trip with my son, his wife and two boys, ages 5 and 4.

Embarkation

2 out of 5
We got there just before 3pm, and all food was denied us. We were hungry and there was nothing. Then when the emergency drill was over, there was no food available yet. I know we came a bit late, but I expected the ability to eat something before dinner.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food in the buffet was not very good, limited choices. The food in the evening in the restaurant was a hit and miss. The only thing that was consistently good was the breakfast in the dining room when they served filet mignon. Also, service in the dining room took way too long. However, our first waiter made a mouse napkin for my grandson which was a big hit.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The fitness center was great. However, the pools didn't feel clean and were it not for my grandsons demanding to go in, I would not have done it.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
I really missed live musicians in the shows and around the ship. The one's that did perform at night were not very good. And the dancers/singers seemed talented, but the shows were ho hum.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
My two grandsons loved the kid's clubs.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Our room steward was good.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
It was okay, although it seemed dated.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our room was the best thing about the trip. I loved it and were it not for my grandsons, I wouldn't have come out.

Ship tip

I would choose a more modern ship, and one with better food.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California

3 out of 5
Did not do an excursion. The parking was confusing and limited.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

4 out of 5
The beach was great. The town not interesting.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

4 out of 5
It was okay. The beach not as nice as Cabo's. We got caught in an incredible rainstorm and felt lucky to get back to the ship.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Okay.

Nice grandparent! You took one for the team so others could have fun. Now you should treat yourself to a cruise YOU want (and maybe need). Sure hope the 4 and 5-year olds vote you 'Best Grandparent'.
