Review summary

The activities for this cruise were subpar and lacking. For a holiday and NYE cruise we expected more and better. The NYE celebration was very good. The food left little to be desired most of the time in the main dining room. Buffet dinner seems to be much better. The staff left a bitter taste in our mouths. The lady in medical was not very friendly dealing with our sick 9YO. The doctor seemed inexperienced to the point I had to ask him if he was a real doctor as he couldn't figure out the correct dosage of medicines he was prescribing. I informed him he better not let our son get worse as for $164 we would really mad. The stewards, Fitzroy and Roon, were awesome. Our waiters Augusto and Joel were exceptional...very pleasant.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was smoother than expected.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The food left me eating all the snacks we brought on and was forced to buy food to carryon from each port. The Main Dining Room left us severely disappointed.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
The activities were lacking for a holiday cruise. I would never sail another at least not with this brand or ship. I was really looking forward in participating in activities but very little available to be desired.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The musicians were great and kept people moving. I would suggest more music on the lido even if it can be on auto without a man standing over the turntables. Performances were meh

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
My kids participated but said there could be more but they loved it.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
5 STARS for our stewards Fitzroy and Roon. 5 STARS for headwaiter Joel and our waitet Augusto. Everyone else we encountered gets a 2 or 3 including the staff in medical

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Layout is what it is.... Staff did their very best to keep things ship-shaped and clean. 2 tumbs up for the staff

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Fitzroy and Roon kept our cabins exceptionally clean and we loved the towel arts...comfort was a plus. The size was bigger than expected and so therefore we were pleasantly surprised and pleased. It was comfortable. We did wish the TV was able to swivel (unless we didn't figured it out) as while on 2 of the beds we were unable to watch it

Ship tip

The staff may not be as pleasant and food is a disappointment so bring snacks

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida Did not visit port

We live in Florida

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Private Island)

2 out of 5
There was NO instructions or directions as to where the activities were being held...apparently we and more than half the guests missed the "party".

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

4 out of 5
We did an excursion on our own

Grand Turk Island

2 out of 5
We completed the BBQ excursion and our guide was great. The food was great. We walked the street a little on our own. Many ppl rented a cab or golf cart which I would do the next time

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
It was crowded and had to be out on hold but otherwise using the global entry saved us time and frustration

WE love the Magic! The food is consistently good and the venues are abundant. We don't expect chef-prepared five-star cuisine unless we pay extra in a specialty restaurant. That said, we rarely feel the need to do that after checking out the menus. We cruise regularly on several lines, and the food on Carnival is as good as the "luxury" lines. Can't believe you couldn't find food you like!

My favorite ship. If you know how to avoid the crowds, which is completely possible, it's a floating oasis. If you follow the sheeple, your going to have issues on any ship.

We also sailed the Magic absolutely loved everything!! There are so many food options no one should have to complain!! Those that do are sure to be never satisfied!! Sorry, cruising is not for everyone!!

Thanks for sharing your experience! We will be on the Magic next Sunday. Maybe a regular cruise will be better than the New Year’s one!
