Review summary

As 1st time cruisers, we were quite impressed by Carnival Magic and the staff and how smoothly the embarkation and disembarkation went. Everyone on board was amazing, having a fun and service oriented attitude. We are definitely planning another cruise on a carnival ship.

Embarkation

No issues at all everything went smoothly, so impressed with the process

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
OMGoodness, we can't say enough good things about our dining experience. We had a group of 6 of us and ate our evening meal in the Northern Lights Dining Room. Wilfredo, Marlon, and Vladimir are the absolute best. They are not only attentive to your food needs, but their overall demeanor was outstanding. They laughed, they danced, they visited with us all while NEVER skipping a beat serving us our meal. Next trip on Carnival Magic and we will be back to see them.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We didn't really do a lot of activities other than the spa below our balcony. It was amazing especially after an excursion. One thing I wish for improvement was the serenity area. I wasn't real impressed, needs some updates.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We went to a couple shows. One show was amazing but the other one, about movies, not so good. The music overpowered the vocals, hard to even hear the performers. We left and didn't finish watching it.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
I already mentioned our waiters, Wilfredo, Marlon, and Vladimir above. Amazing in all they did. Elmer was our room steward - can I just say WOW! Anything we requested he had it done when we returned to our room. We never had to ask him more than once even though he looked so very busy. He was the most pleasant and friendly person ever. We loved all the animal towels left in our room.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
As first time cruisers, we didn't really have anything to compare it to but we did fine with the layout. It was well mapped out with signs hanging to help you and if you were unsure there was always a staff person somewhere very friendly and willing to assist. And the other passengers were awesome too. It was great.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cleanliness was outstanding, the size as expected. The one issue we had was the bed. It was uncomfortable. I was unaware that cruiseships just put 2 twins together and called them kings. YUCK! Our steward, Elmer, did bring us a mattress pad to put on top of it which helped some. Maybe invest in better mattress or pads or have rooms available with better comfort mattress options.

Ship tip

Don't over pack! Like we did as first time cruisers. Watch videos and take the advice. You really DON'T need all those clothes.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida Did not visit port

We flew in the night before, went to the hotel

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Yes Cerena - tour guide. Bus # GT37. The best. Cerena was so fun. It was obvious she loves her island and life and wants people to learn about it. She was very informative and fun, not just boring facts about an island.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

5 out of 5
Nigel - tour guide. Bus # GT103. Nigel was amazing. Everything about this tour was amazing. He knew everything about St. Kitts and the love of his homeland was so apparent. He wanted everyone to love it too. He answered every question and made you feel like all of your questions mattered because you were interested in his island home.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

tour coop bus Miguel - tour guide. Bus # 38 horrible tour guide. His first comment, don't ask me questions when I'm talking! Rude. His American history was wrong. He should have stuck to San Juan history. He kept people in the sun to talk to them when shaded areas where near. He made rude comments regarding women spending money. He like the sound of his own voice.

Grand Turk Island

tour Chukkah Blue. David snorkel tour guide, captain ??(can't remember his name, but outstanding) Stingrays and Snorkeling The best tour ever! Lots of fun playing with the stingrays and getting tour pictures taken and then spending time snorkeling. An extraordinary day of great fun with a fantastic crew. We would definitely book this tour again. It was the BEST tour of all the tour we book for this cruise.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Everything went smoothly. We attended the dis embarkation meeting, which was very helpful for first time cruisers. We had our luggage taken care of the night before so only had our carry-ons for our flights.
