Enjoyed this Western Caribbean cruise on board the Carnival Magic. This was our second time on the Magic and would cruise on her again in the future.
Embarkation
1 out of 5
Only 1 gangway open, pure chaos at the pier. Got on board so late had no time to eat before safety briefing. By far the worst embarkation of all of the cruises we've taken.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
As always, the food was quite good. The staff friendly and helpful. Ate in the steakhouse for the first time, it was excellent.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Spent a lot of time in the spa taking advantage of the amenities that came with our spa level cabin. Love the heated stone chairs, steam room and therapy pool.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
As always the entertainment was quite enjoyable. The rock and roll and country music shows are a lot of fun. The live music and comedy were really good on this particular cruise.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Have always had great service by the stewards and waitstaff and this cruise was no exception.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
My only complaint and this is true of all the ships we've been on is having to pass through the casino or go out of your way to avoid it. Being a non-smoker makes the casino a place I'd like to avoid
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
First time staying in an inside cabin and as it turns out the smallest of all the cabins we've stayed in. Still had plenty of room for our luggage and belongings but missed having the couch to sit on and the balcony to enjoy. This particular room was located underneath the gym so was noisy at times due to the weights being dropped/banged down heavily. If you're a late sleeper the inside room would be perfect as it is about as dark as you'd imagine it could be with no windows.
Ship tip
Make sure you get to Guy's BBQ, it's quite good but is only open on sea days so opportunities are imited
We did an excursion so didn't get to explore the port much due to the time commitment. The excursion had some really good parts, the semi-submersible tour was really cool, the turtle encounter while brief was awesome. Then there was the stop at the rum cake store, which was a waste of time and the trip to "Hell" which was cool for about 5 minutes but lasted a half hour.
Love the beach that's right at the pier here, amazing warm water, white sand. Spent hours just enjoying the water and the sun. Has the normal port shops if you want to do a little shopping, a zip line, boat rental, etc.
My wife and I did the Lamania ruins excursion. Between the tender in from the ship, bus ride to the boat (through some very impoverished areas), boat ride to the ruins and then doing all that in reverse it makes for a long excursion and leaves very little time to actually enjoy the ruins. Even with all that it's well worth the time and the money to get to see them, walk around the area and best of all climb one of the pyramids. It's a little hairy if you're afraid of heights as I happen to be but the view is incredible. Knowing that you're standing where others stood hundreds of years ago and looking out over the area they lived is such a cool experience. We had a great and informative guide, saw some cool trees and animals on the trip. The food at the pavilion was decent. Like all excursions, be prepared to tip the providers. Bug spray and sunscreen highly recommended and most importantly don't forget your camera.
Didn't leave the immediate port area as we had booked the twister speedboat out to passion island excursion. This was our 2nd time taking this excursion and had a blast again this time. The boat trip is so much fun and the couple hours at the islands beach is awesome. They do provide food and drinks as part of the excursion. Bring some cash to tip the staff.
