Review summary

This was our first cruise and most likely our last.  The first thing was a problem with our transfer to our ship which made us the last people to board; therefore, we were not allowed to freshen up or take our luggage to our room because they were waiting on us for the safety meeting.  Leaving the ship for shore excursions was difficult and time consuming.  We were late for our tour at Cozumel which left us no time to explore on our own before returning to the ship.  There were a lot of shows during the day when we were on shore but not during our last two cruise days.  Now for the things we liked.  Our room was great, the staff was great, and the food was great.  Maybe since this was our first cruise, we were expecting too much; but we felt we paid too much money for what we received.

Was a little smaller than we expected but well appointed and had a good bed. The housekeeping staff was excellent.

Ship tip

our cabin location was good. Fairly close to elevators at about the middle of the ship. Quiet and stable.

We did tour of island, cameo jewelry and artwork, rumcake at a beautiful point, marine and archeological museum with some free time at an actual village not just a tourist stop. We had an excellent guide and it was great but you could buy the rum and rumcake cheaper at the ship store.

Some people expect the Love Boat. Arriving late was not Carnival's fault along with your shore tour. Shore days are a restful time for people who choose to stay on board. A cruise is a pleasant relaxing experience not a trip to Vegas.

There are shows in the evening but not during the day. How is it carnivals fault you had a problem with your transfer?

Wow, never heard of any shows happening on Port Days...and getting over 2k people on and of a ship can be a little time consuming, somebody has to be last, and why would you need to freshen before the 10-15 min safety briefing...seems someone went on their first Cruise looking to complain....it's your vacation have some fun...for christ sakes.

To avoid waiting to board try the fast to fun boarding. You get on early. It cost a little more but you dont wait. And i didnt know they had shows on Port days.

I can say no to having programs on ports days. you sure you are mistaken?

Our first time Dec 2010 we had to buy jackets in the Bahamas. To cold to on deck around the pool. Thought it was the best vacation ever now we found out we feel that way after any cruise.

We had a great time on our first and with Carnival. We tried to not do too much to overwhelm us and any little blips from the start we shrugged off. We found that it can be easy to spend a lot of money but, stuck to our budget. We kept our room size to an ocean view for cost. Keep on cruising! Cheaper than a whole week at any all expenses stay at any hotel and resorts.

...dforoughi... yes pirts2 you mentioned many things you enjoyed onboard the part getting off ship is where the cash really starts going away. Enjoy the ship, we take balconies and most of our time is relaxing and enjoying the ocean breezes

I second what tom said. Usually port days are quiet. I recall the legends show night before last among others. You should give cruising another chance! :)

of all 14 sailings I've done on Carnival never have they planned ship entertainment while at port, no one would show up unless you planned on ship entertainment over a shore excursion. They encourage everyone to visit and have fun at the port. tHe crew somewhat has many things going on in hopes passengers won't be in their way.
