Review summary

Nice short cruise for the hubby’s birthday. Friendly and attentive staff. Wonderful entertainment and AWESOME cruise director Chris Donkey. I will follow Donkey on ships he is the director. Kept us laughing and engaged. Overall wonderful cruse despite the FTTF fiasco with getting into our room and Freeport, Bahamas should be removed from the list of ports. Will cruise on the Liberty again some day.

Embarkation

We paid for FFTF and expected to be in our rooms to drop off our luggage but the entire ship could not get into their rooms until 1:30pm. What good did FTTF do except get us pas the regular lines to sit and wait to be called to board? Won’t purchase FTTF again.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was great. Mainly ate at the buffet and once in the MDR. Guys Burgers is not my cup of tea but loved the Steakhouse experience (you must do at least once!) and the BBQ joint. Otherwise buffet was good although breakfast was pretty much the same every morning. Eggs were not cooked enough (too soft) and bacon was was like cardboard. We were in the Silver MDR and it was pretty and the staff was very attentive and entertaining.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We really didn’t do many of the activities, missed all the dive in movies due to conflicting times but I heard they were really good. Adults only pool and hot tubs were awesome! We did attend the art auction, not realizing it would take over 2 hours so almost missed the entertainment, had to run to catch it.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We attended both Flick and America Rocks stage shows and were so very impressed with the cast. During America Rocks I felt like I was in my first concert. It was awesome. Loved the light show and singing.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff was awesome! Our room steward was wonderful. She hung up our cruise sign on our door, which was such a wonderful surprise. Our waiter was fantastic in the buffet, always friendly and starting conversations with us. He saw the coffee that we were drinking (Maxwell House International Coffee Cafe Vienna) and mentioned he loved it so we gave him a can on debarkation day.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Carnival Liberty was our second cruise (first was the Fantasy) and it was much bigger. We learned the layout very quickly. Everything was clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This was only our 2nd cruise, first time was on Carnival Fantasy and we had an ocean view then. This time we went with a balcony. The room seemed bigger but the couch took up a lot of room. The TV was only 19 inches so was difficult to see (yes I was in the room enough to watch a few movies). While the balcony was nice, even got to see some dolphins the first night, swimming and jumping in the wake, my fear of heights kept me off the balcony more than on it so it really wasn’t worth the money for me. My husband however loved it. Room was clean. The only issue I had is that I use a Cpap machine and with the only plug being by the desk, the cord to my machine had to run across the room and we tripped over it at night when going to the bathroom.

Ship tip

Faster to the Fun did not get us in our room any earlier than everyone else. We had to sit in the buffet and wait until 1:30 pm with everyone else. FTTF really wasn’t worth it to us for this reason.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
No excursion, just stayed at a hotel the night before going to the port to get on the ship. Area was pretty but lots of “tourist” shopping. We are from Florida so nothing new to us.

Nassau, Bahamas

5 out of 5
GORGEOUS water, but very, very salty. We did the Balmoral Island All Inclusive excursion. The beach and water were nice, a bit choppy due to weather. Coming from white sand beaches in Destin, FL to the Bahamas with their rocky brown sand, we weren’t impressed. The “all inclusive” part was a joke. You get 6 drinks for free and there are only 3 mixed drinks and 1 “local” beer on the menu for the “free drinks”, everything else you had to pay for. The lunch that was included SUCKED! It was brown rice with kidney beans, lettuce and 3 sliced tomatoes with some type of French or Russian dressing, and tough burnt BBQ chicken (thigh and wing). My husband got the ribs, same thing with his ribs and they were so burnt neither one of us could eat them. We were told the food was ready, but it still took them at least 20 minutes to bring us our food. Others around us were also complaining about how bad the food was. Other food on the menu, such as a cheeseburger, was $21.00!!! What a rip off. We will NEVER go to Balmoral Island again. Even the staff at the restaurant were rude.

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

2 out of 5
Freeport is only good for getting something from the straw market to show you were in Freeport, Bahamas, but everything was exactly the same at almost every single stall. You could tell almost nothing was handmade, which is what we look for. Outrageous prices too. Will never go back to Freeport and if we do we won’t get off the ship.

Disembarkation

Easy to get off the ship and get to our car and out of the port.
