Review summary

We were celebrating a special birthday I’m new to cruising this was only my second cruise and it was my daughters first. My first cruise was three nights and this was for I’m definitely ready for a longer cruise. The ship is nice and the same one I was on for my first cruise so I’m ready to try something different. But the Liberty is a very nice ship, very pretty and from everything I’ve seen, She is well maintained and the staff is hard working and friendly.

Embarkation

Check in got a little confusing. The person at the counter didn’t complete the process of adding our gift cards to our account. A trip to guest services cleated it all up after we boarded.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Diamonds Steakhouse

Overall it was a good experience, my oysters under glass were great and the presentation was wonderful. Our waiter was fun and definitely added to the experience. The food left much to be desired. My daughter had the lamb chops, they were bland and extremely fatty. I mean there was no seasoning on them at all. She was very disappointed. I had the cowboy steak. It was easily 60% fat. Once I cut the fat away I had 5-6 tiny morsels that were edible. If meat is seasoned well and cooked nicely, I’m not opposed to enjoying some of the fat, but this was just pure fat and gristle. The highlight of the meal was the “art” for dessert!! We loved it. If you are celebrating a special occasion (it was my birthday) I highly recommend this tasty presentation.

Onboard Activities

LOL, the trivia was fun! No ship on a stick but still good fun. The main atrium was the location for most games. It got a bit tight at times, especially for the Motown and 80’s trivia. A larger venue would probably work better.

Spa Carnival

They really push you on that first day to purchase a spa service. Know this, once you book a service, you are stuck with it. My daughter booked a seaweed body scrub. After we googled the ingredients and gave it more thought we were pretty sure she would have an allergic reaction. They gave us hell trying to change to another service. She finally was able to switch to a bamboo massage with a very nice young lady, however, the rest of the staff were aloof and bordering on rude.Never again at that spa!!

Our room steward, Hedi, was the best. He kept ice in the bucket and did an amazing job of keeping our cabin as neat as a pin.

Upgraded last minute from a balcony to a suite, we loved it. The larger cabin and longer balcony have spoiled us. The bathroom was clean and spacious. Note, the shower is a tub combo and it is deep! If you have any mobility issues you want to rethink this type of cabin. I have older (and vertically challenged 😳) relatives that I can’t imagine stepping into this tub. But for me, it was heaven! Large shower head on a moveable hose, better than I expected. Overall, very pleased.

Ship tip

If at all possible, don’t check your luggage on debarkation, your wait to leave the ship will be miserable. By the time you do get off, the customs area will be swamped.

It is what it is. A Caribbean port that is what you make it. We did a fun hop on hop off last minute. Leisure Tours was the company and our driver was wonderful. He gave us fun facts and history as he drove, it was well worth the $20! We hopped off at the Atlantis browse the shops inside and out and took great pictures. We then hopped back on the bus and went to the Fish Fry. If you want to try local cuisine this is the place to go we ate it an amazing little place that had pictures of Guy Fieri a recent visit to the restaurant. I always thought Fish Fry was the name of a specific restaurant but it is the name of the entire area.

This was a major fail. We waited on the lido deck until 9:30 to be called, after vacating our cabin by 7:45 as requested! We had a light breakfast and sat in the cramped lido buffet area with basically the rest of the ship. After finally being called we waited in long lines to disembark. Did they really have just one guy scanning people off the ship?!

I was on the same cruise as you and I have to agree disembarking was a mess. Since this was my very first cruise I have nothing to compare it to but my cruise happy mom knew it was a mess. I had a very painful tire meniscus during this cruise so those long lines in customs just about killed me. Everything else was fantastic!!

Yes derekmire, that’s what I said in my note. I did tons of research, not sure what led you to believe I had not. Like with anything, you learn as you go in addition to research. Also, rarely are any two trips/vacations/travel experiences the same.
