Review summary

Over all I heard a lot of sad stories from staff. Like how they are away from their families, I heard that one just had twins and that he worked hard to support his family and that is why he was not at the birth. .I heard that someone had a sick son. All money hungry moves to play on your emotions!

Working on the ship is a way for them to provide for their families. It gives them an opportunity that they otherwise may never get to better themselves and move up. Many said they open up a little business when they make enough... We can take the stories as sad, but still be happy for them that they have a job to help their loved ones. One cabin steward was telling us about losing one brother in a flood and another one was ill in there hospital. We asked about where she was from, etc; she didn't just volunteer info. She was in good spirits though. Most are. I am thankful that we can meet them and support them. I have never felt they were fishing for more tips. Never. We love to chat with them. It's a win win vacation for us.

They are doing what they can to make a living for themselves and their families. Ive talked to many crew members, and I dont think the stories they share are a play or move to get tips. For some maybe, but not the majority. They work hard on the ship, and most all Ive met were decent people.

We’ve heard them to which makes us tip more on a daily basis when someone goes above and beyond. We probably over do it but we tip $10 (depending on how many is in wait staff) for 2 of us every night for dinner. If they really exceed our expectations we give them $20. Regardless of the situation. The majority of the are from third world countries and come to the ships to provide for their families because there is no way they can do it where they live. I’ve been on cruises where I’ve seen people (who went on the cruise) complain that they even have to pay tips at the end of the cruise. Makes me wonder why they are even there or if they tip wait staff at restaurants where they live. Sad world we live in.

"...money hungry moves to play on your emotions?". Or maybe just sharing some of the challenges they face in a quest to support their families while serving YOUR desire for a great cruise.
