Review summary

Our first Carnival cruise was a good one.  Our captain re-routed our ship to avoid storms in the Caribbean, and we did not miss any ports of call, which was fabulous!  All of the cruise ship employees were extremely friendly and helpful.  The best part of the cruise entertainment was the comedy club.  We saw 2 or 3 shows each night at sea.  The stage shows were also good.  The variety of entertainment available on board was excellent.  The food was average.  Our biggest complaint is that the thermostat in the cabins cannot be controlled individually.  The ship controls the temperature of your room.  Our Ocean view stateroom and bathroom was very large and comfortable, other than the temperature.

Ship tip

The Lido buffet was only average. We tried to eat in the dining rooms as much as possible.

Ports of call

Grand Turk Island

We hired a private taxi and took a tour of the island. Loved seeing and feeding the donkeys at the lighthouse! There is plenty of time to enjoy the beach after the tour.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

We walked the short distance to Old San Juan and to the El Morro fort. Toured the fort for $5/person and loved it. Then ate lumch at Raices.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Hired a private taxi to take us to Drake's Seat for the view, and then to Magan's Bay for a beach day. Saved lots of money doing it this way.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Our only pre-purchased excursion for this cruise: the Tall Ship Sail with BBQ lunch and snorkeling. Had a great time! Would recommend. Then walked through Philipsburg for a little shopping.
