Review summary

A wonderful and unique experience seeing remote places. Spectacular views of icebergs, mountains, and small towns. Unfortunately, had to isolate in cabin last two days of cruise. Wish we had better room service menu including healthy choices during this time. Better TV would have helped, as would better selection of current movies on the TV. Could have used more support on those last two days.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
It took an hour. The lines were long. The Xray process was difficult, with lots of shouting by the agents.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Dining room was pleasant, and the servers were excellent. The portion sizes at dinner were too small for the starch and vegetable servings. The buffet had some tasty offerings for lunch and dinner. Breakfast was good, but the same items again and again. It was hard to find a seat in the buffet area at times. Room service menu very limited.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Excellent lectures on travel, but not enough activities for a 14 day cruise with 9 sea days. Too much emphasis on trivia games. The Atrium area was too small for some activities scheduled there and there were not enough places to sit down and enjoy the event.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Production shows by the onboard performers were excellent. Featured performer Chuck Wagner was excellent. Violinists very good; wish they had performed more often. Comedy shows overall disappointing, with too much emphasis on picking on people in the seats up front.

Children's Programs

We did not participate in any children’s programs.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Waiters and our room steward provided excellent service. Overall a very friendly and helpful staff on this ship.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
Ship was clean and well maintained. Atrium too small for some of the activities scheduled there.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was comfortable and clean. Being on a lower deck midship we did not feel much sea motion. TV screen was small, and TV had limited offerings. The movie channel schedule replayed from the first day of the cruise, and we had to watch the whole schedule from day 1 to get to the schedule for the current day.

Ship tip

Might need to make a reservation online for breakfast, brunch, or lunch in the main dining room.

Ports of call

Nanortalik, Greenland

5 out of 5
Great scenery, icebergs very close to town, no commercial stores for tourists, interesting museum. Tendering process difficult because only one boat can dock at a time. Had to wait a long time both to get off and standing in line for over an hour to get back.

Qaqortoq, Greenland

4 out of 5
Great scenery, great rock carvings, museum in center of town, bring bug spray and net to cover your face as there are so many bugs.

St. Anthony, Newfoundland

3 out of 5
Not too much to do there. Grenfell Center is main attraction.

Corner Brook, Newfoundland

4 out of 5
Beautiful scenery photos near docking area, market area for shopping when you get off the ship, easy walk to town center, free shuttle for going between ship and town center.

Sydney, Nova Scotia

4 out of 5
Easy walk to historic area or to waterfront boardwalk. Large cruise port area, with information center, shopping, and restaurant.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We had to isolate the last two days of the cruise, and received special disembarkation procedures.
