14 day Panama Canal was cut short. We went to Antigua and St Maarten instead with multiple Sea Days. Carnival's Sea Day Brunch makes a sea day an experience so I was not disappointed with floating at sea. The ship is one of the oldest in the fleet. It's not a shiny new toy, but it handled the rough seas relatively well. The staff and crew were welcoming, attentive (for the most part) and did a wonderful job with managing a dynamic cruise environment. It was a relaxing and fun cruise.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Port of Baltimore is one of the most organized embarkation ports I've embarked. The workers are pleasant and efficient. Long embarkation lines are atypical for this port.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
The food was prepared well. There is a decent variety. There is no Italian restaurant which is disappointing but not a deal breaker since I've booked her for a future sailing.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Standard fare, trivia, bingo, dance class, cooking class, movies in one of the lounges (there's no outdoor screen). Another disappointment but I was aware of this prior to boarding.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Due to the challenges of attempting to cruise during the Omicron outbreak there were no production shows. I think someone said the majority of the entertainers were symptomatic. Comedians and variety acts were fillers. I didn't get around to seeing these performances. I met the Comedy Club director at the pizza place the last night of the cruise. He was charming, funny and high energy and had great dancing skills so I may have missed out by skipping the shows.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Staff was awesome. Service in My Time Dining was a miss the first night I went which was formal night. I left and went to the Steakhouse. MTD was phenomenally better the rest of the cruise. I didn't make any complaints. There were other places to grab food and since I had to spend $600 in OBC the Steakhouse was a good place to start.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
It's an older vessel. This doesn't bother me. I'm a huge fan of Traditional cruising so Legend's 2002 design and layout are fine. My biggest observation is that Carnival should have installed the outdoor movie screen when it got refurbished in 2014. The ship is clean and easy to navigate. If you're a fan of the newer classes of ships, then the Legend is not advisable. If you can flex between old style cruising and new, Legend shows its age, but it is well maintained. It was an enjoyable experience.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Standard balcony stateroom. Plenty of storage.
Ship tip
Understand the class of ship so expectations are appropriately managed as far as what she offers and have fun. Steakhouse desserts are really good.
Horrible - they had the unmitigated gall to make me disembark at the end of my cruise. :-(.
Easy but I no longer rush off the ship. I book later flights and hang out until last call. The process of allowing passengers to stay in the cabin versus cramming into public spaces is great. We had an added bonus, no passengers were getting on after us since our 14 day was cut to 10. The staff had four free days and didn't have to rush to turn the ship around so everyone was more relaxed.
I was on this cruise and must agree with everything in this review. I was disappointed with not getting to the Panama Canal but still had a great cruise. With all the compensation & refunds I came home and booked another cruise for next to nothing.
That debarkation review didn’t end how I expected. I was a little confused by the full stars but what seemed to be a negative start to the review… Well played! Well played!
We sailed during the height of the outbreak. A lot of staff had gotten infected and stayed behind in quarantine in Baltimore so they didn't want to go too far away from port. I'm glad they didn't cancel. The compensation for the modified itinerary was beyond generous and it was still a great cruise.
I think we would like this ship. We don't like outdoor movies in a deck chair, we do like cruising...not porting, so missing a port would be fine. See. We're all different. But your debarkation review made we lol.
