Review summary

The Carnival Legend is a nice ship, but the staff and food were a disappointment.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
We were disappointed with the food on board. The restaurant was good, but nothing special. They served pretty generic fair and didn't offer much exotic or fancy foods. Service was okay. We had some really good waiters and some poor ones. We liked the anytime dining option. It gave us a lot of flexibility and we were always seated within a few minutes. The hostess even remembered not to seat us with a waiter we didn't like. The buffet food was average, but very limited. The buffet only served food during certain hours, so if you wanted lunch after 3, you were out of luck. There was a 24-hour pizzeria and sandwich stand, both of which were pretty good.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
There were a couple of really good comics that we enjoyed, but one that was absolutely terrible. He wasn't very funny and only had one act. We didn't go to most of the production shows, but the ones we saw were not that impressive. The stage in the showroom is not that large, so I'm sure that limits them. They had a game show and marriage game that were entertaining. The ship had mini golf, basketball, ping-pong, pools, hot tubs, and a water slide (which was pretty fun).

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
While there were a few individuals that were very friendly and went out of their way to serve us, the majority of the staff was unpleasant. My partner got a lot of guff when he tried to use his unlimited soda card. Also, there was little to no beverage service at the buffet. You had to get your own and soda was only available at a bar outside.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The legend is a beautiful ship. The decor is very classic with muted tones. The layout makes it fairly easy to get around. The public areas were well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Our balcony stateroom seemed clean and had a pleasing decor. The thermostat was broken, which they tried to fix, but still didn't work quite right. Otherwise, the room was in good repair. The steward did a good job keeping it clean and replacing towels.

Ports of call

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
While there was nothing authentic here, Carnival has a very nice shopping area and beach. They try to sell you a beach package that includes chair lift rides and beach chairs, but you can easily walk to the beach on a nice paved pathway and use the chairs at no cost. It is a great swimming beach with no waves. This is the perfect port to lounge on the beach and swim in the sea.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
We only went to the port area and didn't go downtown because it was a 15-min. cab ride. The port area was very nice and offered plenty of shops with good prices on souvenirs.

Belize City, Belize

Belize City is very poor and undeveloped. The port area was old and small. If you want to visit this port, I recommend you do an excursion like cave tubing.

Pros: Ship decor and layout

Cons: Buffett, service

Recommends Carnival Legend? No.
