Review summary

Overall it is a very nice ship. I think we will stick to the medium size ships, just personal preference.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
*Buffet is small. We, like many others, were searching for 'the rest of the buffet'. Smallest buffet I've seen on any other ship. Literally 1/2 the size I've seen (on a ship twice as large as any I've been on). So if you are a buffet person, this is not the ship for you. Food was okay. *Pacific Dining Room food - Very very good. Not quite excellent, but was enjoyable. Service was very good. Only thing I did not like at all was they have DJ moments, where they turn the music up blasting, the poor staff has to stop and dance. I heard more complaints about that than anything. I felt bad for the staff, they can't enjoy this. But its part of the "fun" for the ship. *Guys Burger Joint - I was disappointed. I was looking for that juicy hamburger. They look so good. It didnt seem to have any spices, not even salt or pepper. Putting cold lettuce, tomato, cold bbq sauce and cold bun made the burger cold *Shaqs Big Chicken - very tasty *Guys Pig and Anchor - very good *Cucina del Capitano - good, not great. Meatball and arancini appetizers were very good, The chicken parm was huge but didn't like the taste *Chibang - very good. I had the chinese, husband had the mexican. Enjoyable. *Java Blue - I enjoyed breakfast there (and Pacific) more than the buffet. Good espresso, cafe latte and chai tea.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
*Not enough pools, or just not big enough, for the size of the ship. We mostly used the 6th floor aft pool early. By mid day all pools were packed. Difficult to find a shaded area to sit in, cant always use umbrellas because of the wind. *Track is nice, but small (7 x around is a mile). *The basketball court, splash pool area, Bolt etc was excellent and well used by guests

Entertainment

4 out of 5
*Comedy shows were excellent *Stage shows were okay. Some of the performers were like really bad wedding singers *Games like Deal or No Deal, Bingo - we didnt participate. $50+ is too much to pay to play a game.

Children's Programs

did not bring kids

Service and Staff

All the staff were great. At Java Blue the servers/barista's were the best.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship was very clean, well maintained. Design - hard to find bathrooms, not enough elevators for that size ship. Other than that, it was a nice ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

Very comfortable, nice to have the private elevator to the Cloud 9 Spa. Size was good. That being said, I would not get a Cloud 9 Spa room again. We always book and reserve the Thermal spa on ships. Just something we like. This one was over sold so mostly too crowded. They do leave nice robes and slippers in the room but in the spa there is no place to hang them without trying to fold them up. I saw multiple people try and they fell off onto the wet floor - there are 12 towel hangers in the entire place. Aroma therapy room is awesome! Steam room was good. Salt room was nice. Plenty of towels. Never got our complimentary scrub as they were out of them - because they over sell the spa.

Ship tip

Very enjoyable, but don't expect an all day buffet or much of a buffet for that matter.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

Easy port. Did not do an excursion

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Nice, clean port area. Over priced shops but easy to take a taxi to West End to site see or pick up some items. Last time we did the beach tour and before that one of the beach/jungle tours. Always a nice port

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

We did not do an excursion this time. My least favorite port of all. You cannot walk around the cruise port without being yelled at by vendors. I expect that out in town but not in Carnivals port. It is irritating. Hint - walk further in for better prices. Bought my granddaughter a bracelet. It was $85 with a credit card or $65 if we used cash. I thought it was too much. Walked about 8 stores down, same bracelet for $25. I'd suggest taking an excursion and getting away from this port area.

Cozumel, Mexico

Always something fun to do in Cozumel. The Carnival port is full of stores, some over priced, some good. Good place to pick up a few items before getting back on the ship. We have been here several times before and there are always a lot of great excursions to do here.

Appreciate your detailed feedback. We prefer the “midsize” ships as well. Glad you still managed to enjoy your cruise.
