Review summary

Never again ! Carnival is very carnivalesque. If this is your first cruise it might be ok and if you have a bunch of kids or are under 22 and want to party hard this might be for you. Do not expect anything luxurious - this is very budget and kid oriented. We called it a floating Las Vegas Motel 6. Customer service is not their goal. We brought on board 2 bottles of expensive wine to share at dinner, but because we missed one small section of the fine print they confiscated it and threw it away. Only because we had them in the incorrect bag - there was no reason to toss $100 worth of wine when they could have had us pick it up after the cruise like any wine people purchased in town, just unnecessary and rude ! We had packed them in our luggage to fly and intended to carry on our own luggage but a porter at the dock insisted he take it on board. We didn't even think that we weren't technically carrying it on at this point and that Carnival would take it and throw it away - what a waste for a technicality ! We had an idea that this cruise would be what it was however it was much worse - one vacation we were glad to be over !

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
2 meals were ok and 2 were just bad ! One night we had fairly decent service and the rest we barely got food tossed on our tables.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
Fitness center was the only activity that I could give 1 star to. There wasn't anything else for middle aged women to do.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
One of the shows Motown was good - the others just dumb.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Bartenders were good. Restaurant staff with the exception of one night were awful. Room steward was nice but just did the bare basics. Buffet staff just seemed annoyed. Customer service person was just plain rude.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Again, hit and miss - most of the common areas were clean. Layout and design is what you would expect from a low budget older ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
Comfort was mostly fine, however it smelled moldy - the carpet outside the bathroom was damp. Definitely no luxury amenities. We didn't even have robes . There was no way to get any ventilation except keeping the door open which obviously isn't an option.

Ship tip

Only go if you have lots of kids or want to hang out with young drunk people.

Ports of call

Long Beach (Los Angeles), California Did not visit port

Only got on and off the ship there.

Catalina Island, California

4 out of 5
Catalina Island is a cute walkable town.

Ensenada, Mexico

It looks like they have tried to clean up the area near the dock, but it is still Mexico.

Long and complicated

Curious what your review would have been if you had put your wine in the right bag.
