Review summary

For our first cruise, we had a lot of fun. We learned a few things about cruising and how to make our own experience better. The ship is 20 years old and there wee places the wallpaper and decor was seperating from the walls. For it's age it was kept clean and most items functioning. The staff was generally very friendly and most spoke to me as I was passing through the corridors. The Spa was my favorite part of the trip and very much worth going to. The Love and Marriage show was the funniest thing I had seen in years, even Jase the cruise director said that particular show was the best show they had ever had.

Embarkation

Beautiful and easy. All went well.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Food was delicious. Upset that guys burgers and blue iguana close so early in the day. The burger joint should be open all night.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
Spa was nice. Pool was closed most of the time we were there and slide was closed on the nicest day. No notes as to how long they would be closed.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Entertainment was really good. During the songs, the men had strong powerful voices, the females were more difficult to hear.

Children's Programs

The arcade could have been a bit larger with more options. Cost of arcade items were pretty high.

Service and Staff

Mixed. Everyone was really nice and helpful. Had an issue where we won a bingo but wasn't added to our ship credit. Finally on debarkation day, when the credit still wasn't on our tab after multiple complaints with Guest Services, the bingo manager was ignoring people when trying to get his attention. (There were two or three others that had the same problem as us). This caused us not to be able to enjoy our Faster to the Fun to disembark, causing delays getting out of the parking garage.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Nice ship. Atrium elevators do not work and are closed down. One of the prettiest areas of the ship, having these closed down, was just tacky.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Wonderful. Our cabin steward did a wonderful job on the cabin keeping it clean. We said once a day is fine, but they cleaned it twice a day. Very pleased.

Ship tip

It was a nice ship and fun cruise for our first cruise. Wasn't happy about the pool and slides being closed all the time with no notification as to when they'll reopen. Keep restaurants open on the LIDO deck all day and at least into early evening.

Spent time on the Queen Mary. Beautiful ship and fun activities.

Catalina Island, California

Traveled around Avalon and ate dinner at the pirate restaurant. A bit pricey but fun time.

Ensenada, Mexico

Fires, smoke and heavy wind that day. Nothing could be done about the weather, it just was what it was. Later that day the weather improved and we had fun on the outside decks of the ship.

Disembarkation

See bingo issue above. Also, parking garage only had one window open so it took almost a half hour to exit the parking garage. I had a flat tire too which added to the fun. This of course isn't Carnival's fault, but it just added to the drama and frustration.
