Review summary

A very enjoyable cruise! Excellent and diverse itinerary. We had great, sunny weather... Not too hot (yet) in May. Easy in/out from Miami. Carnival was fun, as usual, but has slipped a bit.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Fast, efficient embarkation at Carnival's Terminal F, Miami.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Excellent service, but more limited selections than in past. Food was almost always bland only 'Ok'.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Love the Cloud9 Spa. The Casino was lovely, and a bit smoky (Carnival should do what Aruba and Curacao casinos have done - ban smoking).

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Carnival has shrunk their cast of performers. The shows were energetic and entertaining, but fewer in number. The piano bar singer wad exceptional, the string grouo excellent, and the guitarist was so-so.

Children's Programs

no children accompanied us this time, not many on the ship in early May

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Consistently excellent service, but seemed short handed.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Good layout to help traffic flow and distribute onboard activities. Never seemed crowded (except for disembarking, of course).

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Roomy, comfortable starboard side Cloud9 Spa room.

Ship tip

If sailing with friends/family in adjacent balcony rooms, ask the steward to open the balcony partition to give you a great shared space.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

Oranjestad, Aruba

5 out of 5
Sunny Aruba has about everything. Lots of visitor sites to see. Get away from Oranjestad to see the island.

Willemstad, Curacao

4 out of 5
Unesco city! Looks like a sunny Amsterdam with all the pastel colored buildings. Lots of history here, too.

La Romana, Dominican Republic

4 out of 5
Interestingly, this is the area that many latino celebrities have beautiful homes. Take the excursion to Altos de Chavon and visit the exclusive Casa de Campo area.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic

4 out of 5
You could spend the day at Amber Cove (consider the private over the water cabanas), but we enjoyed a private can your of the area and had a nice beach side lunch, instead. Friendly hosts, fun shopping in the area above the main Puerto Plata cruiseship terminal.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
easy. Miami has this down!
