Review summary

We have been on multiple cruises on Carnival and this was the best ship we have been on and the most relaxing cruise we have taken.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very smooth and easy

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We did not go to any of the specialty dinning. However, the main dining and the buffets were all very good with a good selection. If you want a great salad from a great salad bar at lunch go up to the Serenity Deck (15).

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
we did not do activities - unless eating counts :)

Entertainment

4 out of 5
We think the main show needs to up their game. They sing and dance very well but would like it to be more of a show. The last show of the cruise was just that a show and was amazing.

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
we did not have kids but in the past our kids loved the activities on other Carnival ships

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
They were all excellent. We were kind of surprised that there were not more bar wait staff as we have seen in the past, but it was still fine. Our cabin steward, Rahma, was fantastic.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
We liked the Horizon the best out of all the ships we have been on. The layout was really nice and the ship as a whole was really clean.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Great for the two of us. The balcony was perfect and completely unobstructed view.

Ship tip

get up early (6:45 am) if you want a spot on the Serenity Deck. If you go up there at 7:30 am or later you may not get a spot.

Ports of call

Grand Turk Island

Went snorkeling and got to pet Stingrays both were great. The rum punch was too good also.

La Romana, Dominican Republic

The guides did not speak good English. The seemed nice to your face and would answer your questions. We don't speak good Spanish but there was no doubt they were not talking nice about Americans. The "Blue Hole" was smaller than the information leads on to but was fun and very refreshing. Happy we did it.

Willemstad, Curacao

5 out of 5
We went to the caves which was really cool. After we went to a beach that was really nice but the food and drinks were very expensive. Our guides were really nice.

Oranjestad, Aruba

5 out of 5
We did the Sea Trek. This was absolutely the best excursion we did all week. It was absolutely fantastic and a must do for everyone.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
This was excellent. The new facial recognition and carry your own bags was great. It was as easy as getting off for a shore excursion, walk right off.

Sea Trek The Blue Hole Escargot was really good - a must try caves

Will be going on the Horizon in October. I was on the Magic last April and to date, this is my favorite but I am looking forward to cruising on the Horizon.
