Review summary

We had excellent weather and smooth seas even though we sailed during hurricane season. Awesome cruise.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Fastest embarkation ever! We arrived at 11:30 and had FTTF so we literally walked right on the ship. Never even got a chance to sit down! We went straight to our balcony stateroom and dropped off our carry ons and then headed to the fun.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We had excellent wait staff in the Meridian dining room....table 393. Food was very good and served hot and in a timely manner. Buffet was hot and we always found something we liked. Blue Iguana was exceptional as was Guys Burgers.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We enjoyed the IMAX and the Thrill Theater. The fitness center was very nice and had state of the art equipment as well as outside equipment up by the outside walking track. Enjoyed watching the dodge ball tournament. Played miniature golf, ping pong, billiards and shuffleboard. Sports area was not crowded at all.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Our cruise director, Cookie, was a hoot! We enjoyed dancing with Leo. The best show was the Lip Sync Showdown. We went to several shows in the Comedy Club but found them overly crowded, hot and stuffy and not really very funny. A few of the comedians (I won't mention names} were very crude and not funny at all. The song and dance shows were a bit repetitious...same dance routines, different costumes and songs.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our room steward, Mauricio, was excellent. He kept our room cool and clean and our ice bucket full! Ship personal in the buffet was friendly and helpful.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was very clean but the decor was somewhat boring. It felt and looked more like a 4 star hotel than a cruise ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Our room and bath was very clean and everything was in working order. I only gave it 4 stars as we found that they had reduced the number of shelves and cubby space for our personal items. We have been on other ships and always had adequate space to store our things but we were limited on the Horizon.

Ship tip

Unless they fix the problem, you won't need a sweater in the casino. It was always warm.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

We did the Top Ten upon debarkation while waiting to go to the airport. Charlotte was an excellent tour guide and we learned a lot and saw a lot of interesting sights. We went to South Beach, Little Havana and the Wynwood Art district.

Grand Turk Island

5 out of 5
Love this island. Be sure to go to Jacks Shack and say Hi to Topher the Labradoodle!

La Romana, Dominican Republic

We did the Monkeyland excursion and had a wonderful experience. I would not recommend venturing out on your own as the towns were quite dirty and crowded with scooters and crazy drivers.

Willemstad, Curacao

Very clean and pretty.

Oranjestad, Aruba

We took a taxi ($15 for the four of us) to Eagle Beach. Spent $40 for 2 chaise and umbrella and had a wonderful time. Beach is beautiful and smooth sand and no seaweed.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Everything went smoothly
